I’ll never accept the results – Defeated NDC Chairman

A defeated aspirant for the chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region, Godfred Wumbei, has said he will not accept the electoral results.

This, according to him, is because the results do not reflect reality.

The Chairmanship position was contested by four persons and after the voting on Sunday, Ali John Adolf emerged as the victor with 247 votes.

His close contender, Wumbei Godfred, pulled 236 votes while Alhaji Umar Farouk had nine votes, and Hassan Rufai Ahmed Vellim obtained 93.

The outcome sent a shock through Mr Wumbei’s veins, causing him to weep uncontrollably.

He also demanded to be sworn in as the chairman.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Wumbei described the situation as daylight robbery.

He claimed at the end of polls, he was leading by 11 votes which his agents confirmed but for reasons he cannot tell, his opponent was rather declared winner

“I will never accept the defeat today or tomorrow. The total ballot vote cast was 591 for the Chairmanship position. The first had nine votes, the second had 236 votes, and I was 3rd with 247 votes.

“My agent came to tell me I had won but I later realized the person who had 236 was rather declared the winner,” he claimed.

The aggrieved aspirant disclosed he went to request the polling sheet to see the results for himself but was declined while his call for a recount was also rejected.

He, however, indicated this will not be the end for him, stating he will soon announce his next line of action.

Adu Boahen’s dismissal was a definite decision– Govt Communicator

The President’s choice to fire Charles Adu Boahen, the Minister of State for Finance, was pivotal, according to Kofi Tontoh, a member of the Akufo-Addo administration’s media team.

He believes it demonstrates a president who is unwilling to support corruption.

However, Kofi Tontoh suggested that Mr. Adu Boahen should be given the opportunity to address all of the claims before the Special Prosecutor.

On the Big Issue on TV3 with Berla Mundi on Tuesday, November 15, Mr. Tontoh stated, “This is a decisive decision by the President.”

He added “It is an attempt to show that the President doesn’t condone corruption but let us allow Adu Boahen to have his day and ones all the facts come out if any further action is needed it will be taken.”

President Akufo-Addo has sacked Mr Adu Boahen.

“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has terminated the appointment of the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Charles Adu Boahen, with immediate effect.

“After being made aware of the allegations levelled against the Minister in the exposé, ‘Galamsey Economy’, the President spoke to Mr. Adu Boahen, after which he took the decision to terminate his appointment, and also to refer the matter to the Special Prosecutor for further investigations.

“The President thanked Mr. Adu Boahen for his strong services to his government since his appointment in 2017, and wished him well in his future endeavours,” a statement issued by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin said on Monday November 14.

Akufo-Addo sacks Charles Adu Boahen

Charles Adu Boahen, Ghana’s Minister of State for Finance, has been fired by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

On Monday, November 14, 2022, the president made a statement about it.

The statement claims that his dismissal is effective right away.

The statement read, “Mr. Charles Adu Boahen’s appointment as the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance has been terminated with immediate effect by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”

The president gave justifications for the firing, stating that they were based on his knowledge that the minister had been accused of wrongdoing.

The allegations, the statement added, are in line with an undercover investigative piece that is yet to be shown by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The statement added that the Office of the Special Prosecutor is to investigate the matter.

“After being made aware of the allegations levelled against the Minister in the exposé, ‘Galamsey Economy’, the President spoke to Mr. Adu Boahen, after which he took the decision to terminate his appointment, and also to refer the matter to the Special Prosecutor for further investigations.

Earlier, GhanaWeb reported how Charles Adu Boahen was implicated in the investigative video as follows:

Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State in Charge of Finance, has alleged that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, needs just USD200,000 as an appearance fee and some positions by an investor for his siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana, Anas Aremeyaw Anas has reported.

Barely a few hours before the showing of his latest undercover exposé, the celebrated investigative journalist in a post on his Facebook timeline stated that when his Tiger Eye PI team met with the Minister of State in charge of Finance in the United Arab Emirates, UAE, he stated, for the Vice President to avail himself to the undercover investigators who posed as investors, he will need an appearance fee of only USD 200,000 and also support their investment.

“You mean, like appearance fees and stuff? I mean he, himself (the Vice President), if you give him some (USD) 200,000 or something as a token, as thank you, appreciation, that’s fine. He’s not really, he’s not really (like) that. All he needs is to worry about his campaign money in 2020,” Charles Adu Boahen said when he was asked how an investor can get the attention of the Vice President.

He added that an investor must also consider opportunities for the siblings of the Vice President for his full support, apart from the USD200,000 appearance fee token to him.

“So, if you come with 3 or 4 projects and you say, we are doing this, we are doing that, (and) we are prepared to write a cheque for this, write a cheque (for that). You see, he has a big family. (The) Vice President has about 5 or 6 brothers and sisters. So, what may be, will happen is; if you tell him (the Vice President) that, hey, look, I want to do this project, do you have somebody that I can work with that you will introduce me to? And then, you know, he (the Vice President) will use that to immediately put his brother to work with us on a particular project. That’s how we would be able to work with him (the Vice President). You know what I mean? You see what I’m saying? And the development of his businesses,” the Minister of State in charge of Finance in the Office of the President added.

Anas noted that Adu Boahen, after having bundles of US dollars spread on a table in front of him and told to use them for shopping by the supposed business tycoon, promised to introduce the tycoon to the powers that be; the President, HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, and the Vice President, in Ghana.

“The President himself is also, like my uncle. He was my father’s campaign manager when my father was running for office. So, he will also (come in),” the Minister noted.

He, however, concluded that the Vice President is the most important power to be introduced to in the banking business, therefore the one to meet.

“But you know (that) at the operational level, the Vice President is the one who handles everything. So, he’s the guy we should go and meet.”
This was when he was asked about how he could lead ‘the business tycoons’ to the powerful people in Ghana who can give them influence while they operate in Ghana.

“Excellent. Excellent. You know, I was just telling (that) Isaac, that I have to introduce you to the Vice President. (The) Vice President is a very good man and he used to be the Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana. So, if I tell him you want to come and open a bank, he will prefer it that way. As soon as you can, I have to introduce you. Because you know, even if I’m going to handle something like this, he’s somebody that I have to bring in at some level, even if not the whole details. Because, you know it is important that you get to know him,” Charles Adu Boahen stressed.

Charles Adu Boahen further told the supposed investors that he will charge 20% when they want to invest 500 million (US) dollars in Ghana as a commission for his services.

“Okay. No problem. Okay, let me think about that because (I) think we can manage something. Okay. Hm! This is tough. Sheik, what’s the right address? What should I call you? Okay, Sheik. Sheik, 20%,” he finally said.

This was after he had given the supposed entrepreneurs the option of either giving him a percentage before the work is done and the returns from this percentage will be his alone. Or just give him a finance fee and share the returns made in the investment with him.

“Let me give you an example. I own myself a Real Estate company, so, we are into Real Estate. So, we just finished an office block. … I don’t wanna (want to) make money that I haven’t worked for it. You know, I believe in working for money. If let’s say we want to do affordable housing projects which would cost $15 million, you can come in and share that with me. If you bring the whole $15 million for the project, you can earmark 20% of that $15 million as mine, and whatever returns I make on that 20%, I keep. Or you put the money to work and give me a 10% finance fee, and then give me a share of whatever returns on the project as well. We normally would make a return of maybe 25% returns, 30% dollar equity rate, when we do projects like that. So, it’s up to you and how (what) you are comfortable (with) and how you want to work,” Adu Boahen said while giving these options.

He also tried to lobby for the supposed entity to buy a Debt Instrument (Bond) but was not successful as ‘the business magnates’ were not interested in that.

“But you are not allowed to buy any debt instrument? You know, we issue bonds. You know we just issued these energy bonds. Is he allowed to; can you buy bonds?”

NDC leadership asked me to contest Tano South Parliamentary seat – Hanna Bissiw

The National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Hanna Louisa Bissiw, has set the record straight on why she contested for parliamentary candidate in Tano South in the 2020 national election while holding her position and working as National Women Organiser.

According to her, the decision was taken by the NDC leadership on the back of research conducted in the runner up to the 2020 general election.

Some factions in the NDC is criticizing Dr. Hanna Bissiw for simultaneously contesting as a parliamentary candidate for 2020 while working as national officer of the party.

In reaction to the false impression created around her contest and what led to the decision which was taken by the national leader of the NDC, Dr. Bissiw has outlined in detail event which led to the party deciding and tasking her to contest the Tano South Seat for the NDC in 2020.

I contested in the 2020 Parliamentary elections based on the entire decision by the National Democratic Congress(NDC). These are the facts of that “Political Decision”;

➢ Early 2019, a meeting was held in Ada and presided over by the National Chairman, Ofosu Ampofo. At the meeting, incumbent parliamentarians insisted that they needed early primaries so they could have the peace to go about their duties. At the time NDC had106 members in Parliament.

➢ A decision was made to organize primaries for sitting members of Parliament and leave out orphan constituencies.

➢ The party was to employ the services of a surveying company to conduct research and come up with findings on candidates in the orphan constituencies who have the tendency to win those seats. To win in any elections, research is utterly important.

➢ The issue of unqualified persons who could be suggested for candidature by the research findings was raised.

➢ The question was put out to the Chair and leadership of the party on what they will do if the survey findings recommend somebody the constitution does not allow to contest or the regulations agreed on to be used for the primaries goes against.

➢ The response from the national Chairman was that, he will take a ‘Political Decision’. A political decision like the one taken in Winneba where an angry NPP member crossedcarpet to the NDC. It was realized by the party that the “defunct” NPP member had lots of grounds to win the seat for us.

As a result, our PC who was duly elected was asked to step down for the NPP person who came in less than the stipulated time of 4years to contest on our ticket. That was a “Political Decision” for 2020.

➢ At that meeting, it was decided that Parliamentary primaries in the various orphan constituencies will be staggered. As and when they are able to convince the candidate who will emerge as the one with the high possibility of winning the seat to contest, and then they will conduct the election. So for the first time in our history, Parliamentary primaries were staggered.

➢ I was approached to contest because the party’s survey indicated that I had 91.3% rating in Tano South and the two other candidates shared the remaining 8.3%. Based on this finding, I was approached to contest for the party.

➢ Subsequently, some suggested that I step down as the National Women Organizer because the regulation states that if you want to contest primaries, you had to step down. I said NO.

➢ I’ll contest for the party if that’s what they ask of me but I was not going to step down. It doesn’t have to come with conditions because the decision to contest didn’t come from me. The party wants me to contest.

➢ There were meetings here and there trying to convince me to step down to go and do what the party wanted me to do. I vehemently said no because I’ve taken that seat before and I know what it takes to win the seat.

➢ You can’t come to me in the year 2020 and ask me to contest for a seat that needs a whole lot of work before you’ll be able to get victory. That too as late as an election year, you approach me and you want me to resign and go do the party’s bid for, so I refused.

➢ Eventually, the party directed that I contest for the seat on behalf of the party. Finally, in late august 2020, they said because of democracy a guy was made to contest me in the primaries. He pulled 47 votes out of the 1,092. The delegates massively endorsed me with 1,045 votes.

➢ After the primaries, our designs were supposed to come from President Mahama’s office. They took my picture from President Mahama’s office and the design did not come until ending of September.

➢ Due to this, it was during the first week of October I got any presence in the constituency.

➢ On the other hand, all National Officers were directed to go and station in their various regions and work from the regions in September.

➢ So I had only two months to contest in that election. It was an election that we didn’t lose. If you check the records, pulled 17,066 for the Presidential race. This is the first time we’ve had 17000 and over votes from Tano SouthConstituency for any NDC Presidential candidate.

➢ I set up ten teams and at the same time, I was working in and out of the constituency. In September for instance, I was with President Mahama in the Upper West and the Northern region. The running mate came to Ahafo regionbecause I was stationed to work in Ahafo according to the directives to all National Officers. I was with her throughout her stay in the region.

➢ On 30th and 31st October, I was in the eastern region. I campaigned in three markets in the Eastern region and Fanteakwa as well. This brings the total to four.

➢ After being discharged from the hospital in that same October, I went to the market. On 3rd November, I was in Kaneshie market, Agbogbloshie market and Ablekuma South market.

➢ In the 2020 elections, NDC didn’t lose in Tano South. We didn’t lose that seat. There was zero coalition after the elections. Anyone who took the numbers directly from the polling centers declared that I won.

➢ There was a general light off in the entire constituency and it was drizzling as well. They rushed and gave some pink sheets to our agents. Some of them realized the discrepancies in the figures and drew the attention of the EC officials.

The answer they gave was “send them to your party leadership. When they come to the coalition centre, they will ask for recount”.

➢ So as we received those pink sheets that did not tally withthe figures at the polling centers, we rushed to the coalition centre in Bechem. A typical example is Konkomba A & B. The result of one center was over 400 and the other a little under 400. When you add the tow it was over 800votes but on the pink sheet, I was given 88 at both centers and 44 at both centers for my opponent and 72 spoilt ballots.

➢ At where I voter, Old mosque I had 285 and my opponent had 160 but on pink sheet, they gave me 103 and gave him 160. For the first time in Brosankro NDC had never won Old Brosankro but we won old Brosankro. You go to Mansin, polling stations that we have never won before in the history of this 4th republic, we won. You go to new Brosankro we won polling centers that hitherto we were not winning and appreciated in the other centers.

➢ Come to my own hometown, Techimantia, places where the NPP will get 200 and over votes and we get 50, 40votes. But in the 2020 election, if they had a little over 200 votes, we pulled 200. We appreciated in all the polling centers. There was no difference of 100votes between me and my close contender except for Appetite where he was able to stretch me with 100 votes. Only one polling center out of the 120 polling centers. Techimantia is the biggest place. The figures did not tally.

➢ We stayed at the coalition centre throughout the night. EC claimed they were doing administrative work but with all the administrative work we realized they were playing tricks.

➢ Thus, we indicated to Mr. Asamoah and I mention his name because he was the Presiding officer that we have not seen ballot boxes, biometric machines and electoral materials at the coalition center. We made it known that we will request for a recount of the ballots of the various polling centers.

➢ So where were the ballot boxes, biometric machines and the other electoral materials? He told us we are delaying him so we should allow them to finish with their administrative work. We sat through the night under heavy armed Police and Military officers. The coalition centerlooked like a war zone.

➢ The lawyer was directed to write a letter for recount, which was done. So we requested for the electoral materials to arrive. The lady returning officer appeared at the coalition center around 4 to 5a.m.

➢ Around 7 a. m I entered my car to charge my phone. The lawyer came with some sheets they said we should sign. They collated, so we refused to sign that report. We held a press conference and NDC as a political party took this case to court.

➢ Whiles in court and proceedings were not favoring the NPP, the entire EC office mysteriously caught fire one weekend and everything burnt down to ashes. There was zero evidence for us to continue the case.

➢ Now my question is, am I bigger than the party? Because anytime the party wants a particular candidate to contest anything anywhere, can anybody impose themselves on the party? No.

➢ I asked the party to get their candidate to go and contest if they thought they had somebody who could win the seat. In the survey’s findings in the entire orphan Constituencies I had the highest ratings at the time when I had zero presencein Tano South and hardly went to the village.

➢ Now, for the records, I have zero interest in going to contest for that seat. Even if there is no contest and I am asked to present myself for swearing in, I don’t want it. I am not interested in becoming a member of Parliament.

➢ Whether I am contesting for National Women’s Organizer or not, I reiterate that i am not interested. I have worked as a member of parliament and I know what it entails but, I have lost any interest in that regard.

➢ I accounted for every pesewa that was given to me. I lived well with my people even after we lost the election. 84 boreholes were drilled. Schools were built, mosques were built, school fees were paid, and scholarships were given. Computers, laptops, text books, exercise books, health facilities, I touched every sector. From the markets to abattoirs, reaching out to the needy in their various homes, reaching out to children and donating about 500 new clothes every year together with food items and toys to throughout the constituency and supporting teachers.

➢ The most important thing is that as a member of parliament, I led a very transparent administration like a mirror. I will always offer my support to the people but I am not interested in becoming a Member of Parliament for Tano South.

➢ I am not interested.

‘I’m the most judged stripper’ – BBNaija star Chichi

Chichi, a reality television star, has criticized those who think she should not be an exotic dancer.

The BBNaija season 7 star said in an interview with Punch that people in that profession are typically despised in Nigeria.

She claims that because exotic dancers are viewed as less than human in our region of the world, she is the most harshly judged stripper.

“I believe I am the most scrutinized stripper,” People frequently sought my assistance when I was a stripper (I no longer strip), while also passing judgment on me at the same time. They didn’t regard us as beings with souls. Although stripping is a profession in the United States, it is not accepted there. It was very challenging.

Because of that, I cannot talk in public. And, that is why I am uptight; I don’t like expressing myself. Whenever I talk, people are quick to throw ‘shades’ at me, saying what do I know since I’m just a stripper. They feel we (strippers) can do anything for money,” she said.

Chichi also expressed her disappointment at brands offering her N5 million for a one-year influencing contract.

The exotic dancer turned reality TV star and brand influencer, recently made the news after her rate card went viral. She stated how some brands come to her with low offers for a yearlong contract.

AICC and Anas’ Galamsey expose Venue Saga

The Accra International Conference Centre’s (AICC) management has reversed a previous decision that tried to bar Tiger Eye PI from utilizing its facility to debut the Galamsey economy exposé on November 14 and 15, 2022.

The “Galamsey Economy” research seeks to shed light on some events related to Ghana’s battle against Galamsey.

The AICC management told Tiger Eye through its agent on Saturday, November 13, 2022, that the venue was no longer accessible for usage on the specified days, according to an earlier announcement seen by GhanaWeb.

Tiger Eye P. I. has received a final green light, according to a news statement issued by the director of the Accra International Conference Center, Vivian K.A Asempapa.

“The matter has been resolved. We have made contact with the organizers and the event is expected to come off as scheduled,” portions of the presser stated.

Our attention has been drawn to reports that an advertised event due fo take place at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) by Tiger Eye was being moved from our venue.

2. The initial confusion was due to a scheduling conflict at the level of the
AICC staff and not in any way a political decision as being speculated.

Saglemi housing project sold to private developer -Francis Asenso Boakye

Francis Asenso-Boakye, minister of works and housing, has revealed that a private developer has taken over management of the government’s Saglemi housing project.

He claims that after the housing units are finished, the developer will be in charge of selling them.

Francis Asenso-Boakye declared at a news conference in Accra on Sunday, November 13, 2022, that the project was handicapped and the government could no longer make investments in it.

“Government doesn’t intend to spend more on the project’s completion,” he declared. The project will be sold by the government.”

“We’re letting a private sector developer to take the lead on developing and marketing the housing units, the official said.

The housing minister announced that a committee will be appointed to oversee the procedure and guarantee open competition.

The NDC government’s 2012 launch of the Saglemi housing project with a goal of constructing 5000 homes.

After allegations of financial misappropriation, the project eventually came to a standstill.

The 1500 units constructed under NDC, according to the housing minister, were uninhabitable and a sum of roughly US$46 million is required to supply water, electricity, and storm drains.

Day of remembrance for Soldiers who died in line of duty

0

Vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia joined veterans, officers and men of the Ghana Armed Forces and the other security services on Friday, 11 November to celebrate the 77th Remembrance Day Service at the Christiansburg War Cemetery, Accra.

Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.

Following a tradition inaugurated by King George V in 1919, the day is also marked by war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries.

Other dignitaries present at the event were Ministers in charge of the security sector, Chiefs as well as members of the Diplomatic Corps.

Global food imports on track to reach all-time high – FAO

Food import costs globally are projected to reach nearly $2 trillion this year, or higher than previously expected, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said in a report published on Friday.

The new forecast of $1.94 trillion would represent an all-time high and a 10 per cent increase over the record level of 2021.

However, the pace of increase is expected to slow down in response to higher food prices and the depreciation of currencies against the United States dollar, according to the latest Food Outlook report.

‘Alarming signs’

Food prices rose worldwide following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine but have somewhat decreased. Together, these countries produce around 30 per cent of all wheat exports, in addition to other grains and related foodstuffs.

Although the bulk of the increase in the global food import bill will be accounted for by richer countries, rising food costs have disproportionately affected poorer nations.

The aggregate costs for food imports for low-income countries is expected to remain almost unchanged, even though it is predicted to shrink by 10 percent in volume terms, pointing to growing accessibility issues for these countries.

“These are alarming signs from a food security perspective, indicating importers are finding it difficult to finance rising international costs, potentially heralding an end of their resilience to higher international prices”, FAO said.

Deepening differences

The Food Outlook report warns that existing differences are likely to become more pronounced.

High-income countries will continue to import from the entire spectrum of food products, while their developing world counterparts will increasingly focus on staple items.

Last month, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved a new Food Shock Window to provide emergency financing to lower-income countries.

FAO has welcomed the move, calling it an important step to ease the burden of soaring food import costs.

Agriculture-related imports

The report also assesses expenditures on imported agricultural inputs.

This year, the global bill is expected to jump by nearly 50 per cent to $424 billion, or some 112 per cent over 2020, driven largely by higher costs for imported energy and fertilizers.

“Negative repercussions for global agricultural output and food security” are likely to extend into 2023, said FAO.

Commodities conundrum

The Food Outlook report is published twice a year by the agency’s Markets and Trade Division.

It also contains market supply and utilization trends for commodities such as cereals, oils, sugar, meat, dairy and fish.

Currently, supplies are at close to record levels, though multiple factors indicate tighter markets ahead.

For example, world wheat production is forecast to reach a record 784 million tonnes over the coming year, boosted by significant harvest recoveries in Canada and Russia.

Although this should push global wheat inventories to record levels, the report said that accumulations are expected mostly in China and Russia, while stock levels are predicted to decline by eight per cent in the rest of the world.
