Four fire tenders were sent out by the Ghana Fire Service to douse the fire, which started around 11:00 am on Wednesday.
An affected shop owner, Godfred Kpemetey, made it known that the fire began at the home of some squatters who live behind the market.
Another eyewitness also indicated that the fire blaze for about 45 minutes to an hour ago, before the Fire Service arrived
The fire started from wooden sheds used as dwelling places and spread to some parts of the timber market. The fire is currently contained, and rigorous fire fighting continues,” the Ghana National Fire Service announced on its Facebook Page.
