Mahama’s Abandoned New Edubiase Stadium Now A Cattle Grazing Field

President John Dramani Mahama, at the time, broke ground on the state-of-the-art New Edubiase Sports Stadium in 2015.

However, the stadium, which is thought to be 40% complete, has been abandoned and has become a haven for local criminals.

According to Osei Kwadwo, a journalist who visited the stadium, “SHAKDEEN Limited built a wall and a dressing room on the site but had to abandon the project due to budgetary restrictions.”

In an interview with Osei Kwadwo on Ambassador TV on YouTube, former Sports Minister Joseph Yammin expressed concern about the state of the stadium during the John Dramani Mahama administration.

He said that the John Dramani Mahama-led administration received cash for the stadium before leaving office since it was a benefit of the cocoa road construction.

He claimed that if the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government had not stopped the cocoa roads contract, work on the stadium would have been completed.

“The Cocoa Board funded the New Edubiase Sports Stadium project, which was part of the Cocoa Roads deal. The NDC administration, led by John Dramani Mahama, acquired funding for the project before breaking ground, but the sad element is that the project has been abandoned for so long,” Yammin added.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon got off to a great start for the hosts as the Indomitable Lions, inspired by captain Vincent Aboubakar, earned a 2-1 come from behind win against Burkina Faso in Yaounde on Sunday.

The Cameroonians were stunned at the Paul Biya Stadium midway through the first half as Burkina took the lead thanks to an acrobatic volley by Gustavo Sangare after goalkeeper André Onana’s howler.

But the Indomitable Lions fought back, benefiting from the first VAR decision at this year’s competition as they were awarded a penalty.

Aboubakar converted expertly to draw Cameroon level before giving them the lead with another penalty in the closing stages of the first half.

After the restart, Onana kept out an ambitious long-range free-kick from Traore and then denied Cyrille Bayala from close range.

Aboubakar was unlucky in the second half as a tight VAR offside call denied him a hat-trick.

Meanwhile, Zambo Anguissa fired narrowly wide as the Indomitable Lions looked to put the game to bed.

Cameroon are in action again on Thursday, against Ethiopia while Burkina Faso will hope to bounce back against Cape Verde.

Deltacron, New Strain That Combines Delta, Omicron, Found In Cyprus

A strain of Covid-19 that combines delta and omicron was found in Cyprus, according to Leondios Kostrikis, professor of biological sciences at the University of Cyprus and head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Molecular Virology.

“There are currently omicron and delta co-infections and we found this strain that is a combination of these two,” Kostrikis said in an interview with Sigma TV Friday. The discovery was named “deltacron” due to the identification of omicron-like genetic signatures within the delta genomes, he said.

Kostrikis and his team have identified 25 such cases and the statistical analysis shows that the relative frequency of the combined infection is higher among patients hospitalized due to Covid-19 as compared to non-hospitalized patients. The sequences of the 25 deltacron cases were sent to GISAID, the international database that tracks changes in the virus, on Jan. 7.

“We will see in the future if this strain is more pathological or more contagious or if it will prevail” over delta and omicron, he said. But his personal view is that this strain will also be displaced by the highly contagious omicron variant.

Dear folks, my attention has been drawn to a social media post (herein attached ) grossly misrepresenting facts about Christmas inspirations that were mounted at the Kotoko International Airport.

Here are the facts:

FACT: The Ghana Airports Company Limited has for many years mounted Christmas inspirations around the terminal area to create a festive atmosphere for passengers and their families coming into the country.

FACT : The total expenditure of 2021 is the lowest since 2016.

FACT : Two separate suppliers were invited to submit bids. The bids were discussed and discounts obtained. ( We are grateful to Jandel Limited and Favors and Arts)

FACT : The beautiful Christmas tree standing at Terminal 3 and 3 others altogether cost GHC 34,000, which was graciously provided by Jandel Limited at a heavy discount. (We thank Jandel Limited)

FACT : The other inspirations were provided by Favors and Arts for a total cost of GHC 84,000 out of which GHC 50,000 was obtained via sponsorship.

FACT: All salaries and or bonuses due staff for December have been paid.

It is ridiculous for anyone to say that the invoices from these two reputable companies were issued in the name of the Board Chairman, that just means the author of such spurious allegations has insufficient acquaintance with corporate workings.

We will like to urge the general public to disregard these unfounded allegations. The GACL has a fully operational corporate affairs department that is able to attend to all public enquiries.

We will like to assure the general public that we are fiercely committed to support the Hon Minister of Transport to achieve President Akufo-Addo’s vision for the airport, the vision contained in clear directions is to “make all Ghana airports an important symbol for our national development agenda”.

A romantic security guard in Uganda brought road traffic to a standstill, when he proposed to his girlfriend in the middle of a busy highway as the police and motorists cheered on.

According to multiple reports, the woman in question is a University Lecturer in Uganda.

The report indicated that a security company providing security to the university had deployed the guard at the single female lecture’s residence to guard her at night for 2 years.

The guard who couldn’t hide his feelings for the lecturer decided to “shoot his shot” and luckily for him, the lady accepted his proposal.

The Ghana police is at again,According to them a Series of special Anti-Robbery intelligence-led operations were carried out throughout the country in the past 48 hours.

During the operations, 6 robbery suspects were arrested and five others killed in a gun battle with the Police.

Meanwhile, similar operations are in progress in the Northern and Western North Regions.

Driver of Vehicle with Registration Number GW 402 V Charged for Court

A suspect driver, Awal Mohammed, aged 31 has been arrested and charged for court for the following offences:

a. Driving on the wrong side of the road, contrary to Regulation 106 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulations (RTR) 2012 L.I 2180

b. Careless and inconsiderate driving contrary to section 3 of Act 683/04 as amended by 761/08.

C. Causing danger to other road users, contrary to section 22 of Act 683/04 as amended by 761/08 and

D. Causing road obstruction, contrary to Regulation 170 of the Road Traffic Regulation 2012, L.I 2180.

The said driver was captured on video by a concerned citizen as he dangerously veered off his lane at a section of the road at Kwahu Foduah, and drove facing oncoming vehicles.

We wish to commend the good Samaritan for volunteering information leading to the arrest. We wish to further caution motorists to drive with due care and attention at all times to avoid road traffic crashes.

The Western Regional Minister, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Takoradi Constituency says Sekondi-Takoradi now holds the bragging rights to the famous masquerader’s culture in Ghana and they are not ready to lose it to any city.

He made this known to Skyy Power 93.5FM during the biggest masquerader’s event in Ghana, the Westside Carnival which attracted millions of viewership worldwide both physically and virtually making it the most talked about and popular cultural event during the 2021 festive season.

Explaining his reasons, he indicated that the masquerader’s culture in Takoradi which is over 60 years old has evolved to a much-advanced level and has been accepted by all classes of people in recent years, with over 10,000 individuals participating, unlike some 15 years ago when it was only perceived for “unserious individuals”.

He said, “Now, you will see doctors, engineers, business tycoons, lawyers, teachers, politicians, celebrities and people of different professions joining the masquerade bandwagon to have fun and that has changed the narrative, making it one of the most celebrated and popular cultures in the country.”

“Not only that, we have hundreds of people who travel from overseas to join the celebration including foreigners and this should let you know that the Takoradi’s masquerader’s culture is bigger than any in the country.”

Even though it originated from the Central Region of Ghana, Sekondi-Takoradi now owns it because theirs is more recognised and perfectly branded to suit international standards, the Minister made it known.

Also, since other places like Tema, Cape Coast, Agona Swedru and Winneba have adopted the masquerader’s culture, the Regional Minister is confident and has no fear that Sekondi-Takoradi will lose its bragging rights of the beautiful culture to any of these cities and towns.

Mr Okyere Darko further indicated that the Sekondi-Takoradi masquerader’s culture is now the blueprint of the modern version and before any other city or town can reach that level, they have already advanced futher.
