More than 10 persons occupying a commercial bus (trotro) and a taxi have narrowly escaped death after a trailer loaded with bags of cashew fell on the two vehicles at airport roundabout in the Ashanti Regional capital Kumasi.
Some passengers and driver of the trailer sustained various degrees of injuries and have been transported to the Komfo Anokye and Manhyia Government Hospitals for medical attention.
Eyewitnesses say the trailer with registration number AE 354 – 12 is suspected to have failed brake but upon seeing danger decided to hit a roundabout to save lives but unfortunately rammed into the two vehicles.
“The trailer was coming with speed. It was obvious the driver had failed break because of the way he was honking and warning people to clear the road. He wanted to use the roundabout as a guard to prevent injuring others but the trotro and taxi drivers instead of reversing decided to hurriedly cross but got caught up in the accident”, an eyewitness, Chike narrated.
A joint team from the Police and Fire Service swiftly attended to the accident to rescue trapped passengers in both the KIA urvan with registration number AS 3864 – 22 and Hyundai i20 with registration number as 347 – 19 and control traffic.
“We’ve sent all the injured to Manhyia hospital and KATH for treatment. After clearing the road, we will commence investigation to know the exact cause of the accident”, Airport MTTD Commander, ASP Frederick Egyire stated.
The incident which occurred around 9, Thursday morning , April 17, created vehicular congestion on both the Airport-Krofrom road and Airport-Anloga Junction road but the police managed to control traffic until all the vehicles were cleared off the road.
Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has indicated that, should the NDC win the 2024 general elections, the party will cancel the Electronic Transfer Levy, E-Levy.
Speaking on Joy News, the NDC National Executive Member said, the tax imposes hardship on citizens, therefore the NDC will repeal it.
“The General Secretary of the party has already said so. He’s my boss. He’s the Chief Executive Officer of the party, [and] he has said so. And I believe that he has the blessing of the leadership of the party, and that is a party position, that we do not subscribe to the E-levy, and we will not continue to take E-levy from Ghanaians should power change hands.
“Because we need to bring honesty to the politics we do in this country. If the E-levy is bad now, it cannot be good in 2025. And I believe that the NDC will stand by the position the General Secretary has announced. I’m even looking for a situation where that will be captured expressly in our 2024 manifesto,” Sammy Gyamfi explained.

The Greater Accra Regional Nutritional Officer of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Faustina Vimariba Tour has disclosed that some parents get children drunk by feeding them with local pudding made from fermented corn dough.
Speaking to Starr reporters on the sidelines of a media workshop for journalists organized by UNICEF and Mahogany Consult, she said this goes on to affect the feeding of children.
“Some people will give only ‘Mori Koko’ and sometimes they over ferment the ‘Mori Koko’ which is the maize porridge and it becomes alcohol.
“So, when you feed the child with it, it means that the child ends up getting drunk because it is the alcohol you have given to the child, and when the child sleeps, the child will miss the number of times that they’re supposed to feed,” Madam Faustina Vimariba Tour shared.
According to the nutritionist, although the alcohol levels in the puddings given to children are unknown for certain, parents must be cautious and ensure children are only fed puddings that are fortified.
He said the continuous intake of pudding made from fermented corn dough can affect the brain development of the child due to the alcoholic content.
“We cannot really tell the alcohol percentage but alcohol is not good for the brain development of the child so it has some effects. If it’s something they like, it should be fortified by adding other things to make it rich. Fortify it with groundnut paste, soya, etc. Also, it shouldn’t be very light but should be thick and friendly for the child. Three to four spoons is enough,” Faustina Vimariba Tour added.
The UNICEF and Mahogany Consult media workshop was to equip media workers with information to support the reportage on nutrition and nurturing care.

When asked whether she is aware her son is a notorious thief, she indicated that he was a driver but later decided to adopt a different lifestyle.

“We will present some relief items. There will be a difference due to the situation because a lot of people have gone to stay with their friends and relatives so currently, we are preparing ourselves to move to the area. We are waiting for our Director-General. He is on his way to Takoradi so probably by 12:30 pm we will be at the place to assess the impact of the tidal wave.”
The tidal wave incidents in these parts of the country are not new. Affected residents have repeatedly called on the government to build sea defense walls to address the problem.
The Supreme Court panel of seven presided over by Justice Jones Victor Dotse with Justice Agnes Dordzie, Justice Nene Amegatcher, Justice Mariama Owusu, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Justice Henrietta Mensah Bonsu and Justice Yonni Kulendi fixed the date after hearing the parties.
Earlier the Apex court had dismissed a review of application blocking the hearing of the injunction filed by Michael Ankomah Nimfah.
Counsel for the MP led by Tsatsu Tsikata withdrew the motion on stay of proceedings afterwhich it was struck out by the court.V
The Supreme Court has therefore set April 13 to rule the induction.
Background
Michael Ankomah-Nimfa, a resident of Assin Bereku in the Central Region, filed a petition at the Cape Coast High Court seeking to annul the declaration of Mr. Gyakye Quayson as the MP Assin North.
Mr. Ankomah-Ninfa had insisted that Mr. Quayson had dual citizenship prior to filing nominations to contest for the Assin North parliamentary seat during the 2020 polls.
The Cape Coast High Court subsequently declared the 2020 parliamentary election held in the Assin North Constituency as null and void as it upheld that Mr. Quayson breached the provisions of the constitution with regard to dual citizenship.
Mr. Quayson subsequently appealed the judgment, at the Court of Appeal in Cape Coast but the case was subsequently dismissed.
He again sought cover from the Supreme Court.
Michael Ankomah-Nimfah also dragged the issue to the Supreme Court in a bid to have Mr. Quayson prevented from carrying himself as the MP for Assin North.
Supreme Court to decide on Gyakye Quayson’s fate as ‘Assin North MP’ next week
The Supreme Court will next Wednesday, April 13, 2022, rule on the motion seeking to stop James Gyakye Quayson from holding himself out as the Member of Parliament for Assin North.
Arguing the motion before the 7-member Supreme Court panel on Tuesday, the lawyer for Michael Ankomah-Nimfah, Frank Davis, said his client has established grievous breaches of the 1992 Constitution, and the other electoral laws against the disputed MP.
The Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, has referred three Members of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, Henry Quartey, and Kennedy Agyepong to the Privileges Committee for absenting themselves from over fifteen sittings of the House.
According to the Speaker, the absence of the MPs without his permission constitutes a breach of the rules of the house.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Alban Bagbin urged the committee to provide its report to the house two weeks after the House reconvenes from recess.
Petition
Already the former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak has petitioned Parliament to crack the whip on some absentee MPs who have breached the 15-day rule in the House.
According to him, four Members of Parliament have all absented themselves from the Chamber for more than 15 sitting days without the express permission of the Speaker.
In the petition, Mr. Mubarak called on the Speaker “to direct for their conduct to be referred to the Privileges Committee for consideration and necessary action.”
Article 97 (1) (c) of the 1992 Constitution and Order 17 of the Standing Orders of Parliament state emphatically: “A Member shall not absent himself during a meeting for more than fifteen sittings without the permission in writing of the Speaker. Any member infringing this Order shall have his conduct referred to the Privileges Committee.”
Okudzeto Defense
In related to this development, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in a post on Facebook said; I commend Speaker Bagbin for commencing an action against all three absentee MPs.
According to him; As I indicated earlier following my research, the provisions of the 1992 Constitution under Article 97 must apply without discrimination.
‘’Adwoa Safo, Kennedy Agyapong, and Henry Quartey must face the same music.
