The former Managing Director (MD) of defunct Capital Bank, Reverend Fitzgerald Odonkor, has told an Accra High Court he did not assist the founder of the institution William Ato Essien in taking money from the bank.
“I say that I have not abetted the 1st Accused in taking money of Capital Bank as alleged, I only acted as an employee of Capital Bank which executes decisions of the Board to the best of my ability”, he stated.
Reverend Odonkor, together with the bank’s founder William Ato Essien and businessman Dr Tetteh Nettey, have been slapped with 26 charges, including stealing various sums worth over ¢260 million.
State Prosecutors allege that between June 2015 and October 2016, William Ato Essien, with the support of Rev. Odonkor, appropriated a total of ¢27.5 million of the liquidity support, which was conveyed in jute bags.
Mr Essien is said to have further taken money given to the bank as liquidity support by causing ¢100 million to be paid into a Capital Bank Account held by the Managing Directors of the following three companies; Maripoma Enterprise Limited, Hardwick Limited and Volta Impex Enterprise Limited opened purposely to receive the amount.
The ¢100 million was to be used by the Managing Director of the three companies ostensibly as payment for 30% shares in Capital Bank.
The state says as part of the cover-up of this act, Mr Essien prevailed on the Managing Director of the companies to submit copies of Government Payment Certificates of the three companies valued at ¢135million to be discounted to ¢105 million by Capital Bank to be used as collateral for the purported loan of ¢100 million.
Rev. Odonkor told the court the Capital Bank Board approved these certificates.
“I say with regard to Discounting of Certificates of Maripoma, Volta Impex and Hardwick; the transaction for capitalization was approved by the Board. Management went ahead to verify the certificates from the Ministry of Finance and Urban Roads,“ he explained.
He stated further that he has never signed any cheque or transfer instrument “regarding the matters” for which he has been charged in court.
“I say that I am not guilty of any of the charges against me,” he concluded.
The case has been adjourned to April 28, 2022, for continuation.
The National Democratic Congress MP for Ningo-Pampram Hon Sam George is totally disappointed in the Lecture delivered by the vice president of the Republic of Ghana.
According to him the lecture has no workable solution for the mess created by the Nana-Bawumia administration and it if full of false claims to which a true Moslem shouldn’t lie during the Ramadan season..
Below is the message whuch was cited by countryghana.com/
“It was painful listening to the usually boisterous and loquacious Bawumia battle through a drab and uninspiring monologue of self justification of his abysmal failure as Head of the Economic Management Team.
His presentation lacked a clear workable solution to the mess he and his team have led us into. He went to great lengths to prevaricate and ended up exposing the fact that he is hapless at the moment. He used statistics in a duplicitous manner underlying his desperation for some kind of credibility.
How he compared inflation in 2016 and 2020 when the baskets were completely different is quite dishonest. Again, his attempt to paint a lower fiscal deficit between 2017-19 as against 2013-16 is unbecoming of an academic. He is very aware that between 2017-19, the government had omitted energy and finsec costs from the calculations. Such intellectual dishonesty should not be seen in a practising moslem especially during Ramadan.
Several false claims were made, deliberate distortions of facts and an attempt to project a reality that only exists only in his mind. The economy is in tatters and even the jestful Bawumia forgot his jabs, jokes and quibs yesterday. He clearly has been humbled by the Ghanaian economy and he needs a bail-out.
Whilst we figure out a rescue plan for Bawumia and his EMT, let us remind him that his silence on the e-Levy was noticed. We also realised how the 170 questions he quizzed the late Amissah-Arthur with dwindled to 11 questions yesterday. Even with the 11 questions, he suffered a miscarriage.
A rather poor showing for a much hyped ‘economic messiah’ turned digital goro boy. “
Will Smith has been banned from the Oscars gala and other Academy events for 10 years after the US actor slapped comic Chris Rock at the Oscars.
In a statement, the Academy said the 94th Oscars had been “overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behaviour we saw Mr Smith exhibit on stage”.
Smith has apologised for his actions and resigned from the Academy.
The actor hit Rock for joking about his wife’s shaved head, a result of the hair-loss condition alopecia.
Less than an hour later, he was awarded the best actor award for his role in “King Richard”, where he played the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams.
The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Science, which organizes the awards ceremony, met virtually on Friday to discuss disciplinary action.
In its statement, it said banning Smith was aimed at protecting performers and guests and “restoring trust in the Academy”.
The Academy said that at the time of the slap it did not “adequately address the situation in the room” and had been “unprepared for the unprecedented”. It apologised for this.
It also thanked Rock for “maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances”.
In his resignation statement, Smith said he had “betrayed the trust of the Academy” and was “heartbroken” over his actions.
He added he would “fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct”.
His resignation means he will be unable to vote for future Oscars voters.
The Academy’s disciplinary review over the incident, originally scheduled for 18 April, was fast-tracked after Smith resigned.
Few have ever resigned from the academy. Four members – producer Harvey Weinstein, actor Bill Cosby, director Roman Polanski and cinematographer Adam Kimmel – have been booted over sexual misconduct allegations, while actor Carmine Caridi was expelled in 2004 for pirating screener videos given to him.
But the standards of conduct laid out by the film academy contained various disciplinary options for Smith, such as excluding him from future Oscars ceremonies, revoking his eligibility for awards or taking back his newly won Oscar.
Only one Oscar has ever been taken back; a feature called “Young Americans” won the best documentary honour in 1969 but was found to be ineligible for the award that year.
Late last month, actor Whoopi Goldberg – a member of the academy’s board of governor – predicted Smith would face “big consequences” but said “we’re not going to take that Oscar away from him.”
Beyond the Academy’s actions, at least two studios – Sony and Netflix – are pausing their projects with Smith.
Rock, who began his latest stand up comedy tour shortly after the Oscars telecast, has not commented publicly on the slap.
He told fans at a show last month that he is “still kind of processing what happened” and will talk about the incident “at some point”.
Charlotte Oduro, a Ghanaian counsellor, in an interview with Abeiku Santana on Okay Fm explsined how a woman might cheat or double date without leaving any evidence.
Mrs. Charlotte Oduro is an evangelist who has been educating the youth and couples on how to have a good relationship with their partner.
This time around she makes us to understand that women can cheat without their partner’s knowledge.
“When a man meets a woman who gives him good sex, he gets overwhelmed, it takes over his mind. He starts showing actions and acts like he’s never had sex, but for a woman, even when the sex is good she still knows how to take care of herself without you ever finding out.”-
“For men, once they are all alone, they start smiling and imagining things. Their speech and actions change all of a sudden. Most women are very smart, they can easily figure out when a man is cheating because they totally change toward them.”
A few days after speculations besieged the mainstream that she has given to her second child all the way in Canada, Nana Ama Mcbrown has finally broken her silence.
Ghbase reports that the United Showbiz host, according to the unsubstantiated report that saturated multiple online portals and tabloids, has given birth to a baby boy in Canada last week.
However in this new interview with Kofi Nwanwani of Kofi TV fame, the veteran Kumasi-base thespian disappointedly did confirm or deny the report.
In her words, journalism comes with lots of reports while adding that at the right time everyone would know whether it is true or not amidst laughter.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was silent on the controversial Electronic Transfer Levy (E-levy) during his much-anticipated economic lecture on Thursday.
The only time the Vice President came close to mentioning the tax policy was when he was talking about taxes and levies abolished and reduced by the Akufo-Addo government within the last five years.
He mentioned the likes of Mobile Money interoperability, drone supply of medicines, digitalisation of passport applications and driver’s license, introduction of Ghana Card and the usage of National ID numbers as Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) as some of the innovations brought about by the Akufo-Addo-led administration.
“And they still don’t understand the link between digitalisation and the economy,” he consistently interjected his address with these words.
Since the new tax was tabled in Parliament in November, 2021, Dr Bawumia has failed to comment on its resourcefulness in the current revenue mobilisation drive by the government.
The Vice-President is on record to have opposed any taxation on Mobile Money (MoMo) transactions suggesting that such a move will impoverish the average Ghanaian.
Most Ghanaians anticipated for him to talk about it but he he failed to do so.
