Akufo-Addo commissions the rehabilitation of Asomdwe Park (Photos)

The commissioning took place after a brief ceremony on July 24, 2022, which was attended by a number of sympathizers and the former President’s loved ones.

Akufo-Addo stated in a message posted to his Facebook page that he made the decision to rebuild the Asondwe Park after learning of its poor condition.

“On Sunday, 24th July 2024, I commissioned the rehabilitated Asomdwoe Park, the final resting place of the 3rd President of the 4th Republic, the late Prof. John Evans Fiifi Atta-Mills,” the President said

“Sometime after becoming President, I became aware of the sad state of Asomdwoe Park, and, in 2020, I received a request from the late President’s energetic Communications Director, Koku Anyidoho, who runs the Institute named after the President, for the assistance of Government to rehabilitate the facility. I agreed, and, subsequently, I instructed the Coastal Development Authority to undertake a thorough rehabilitation of the Park, with the close co-operation of the Institute.

“It was not right that the Park had been allowed to deteriorate considerably over the years since his burial in 2012, and I am happy that it was under the Presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, allegedly his “fiercest critic”, that Asomdwoe Park has been elevated to a status befitting the final resting place of a President of the Republic of Ghana.

In addition, Akufo-Addo said that he did not upgrade Atta Mills’ final resting site in order to gain political advantage and sent his condolences to the deceased former president’s family.

“I did so with that objective solely in mind, and not to exploit or take advantage of any so-called divisions in the political party to which he belonged. Those alleged divisions are not of my making, and do not, in any way, inure to my benefit.

“My wife Rebecca and our children join me and the Government in reiterating our sincere condolences to his wife, Naadu, his son, his entire family, to the National Democratic Congress, and, indeed, to the people of Ghana for their great loss. The man from Ekumfi Otuam will not be forgotten,” he added.

Atta Mills passed away in 2012, and today marks the exact 10-year anniversary of his tragic passing.

On his Instagram page, the American DJ, record executive, author, and producer DJ Khaled has once again given the song “Kwaku The Traveller” by Black Sherif his support.

He has “promoted” the song for the second time in a week.

His most recent post shows him and another traveler singing along to the music as they drive to the airport. For a show, he is making the trip from America to Canada.

In the one-minute and 19-second long video, he can be seen shaking his head and gesturing at various points in response to the song’s lyrics.

He used many Ghana flag emojis in the caption and tagged Blacko with the phrase “BIG CHUNE.”

The legendary Hollywood figure shared minute-long video footage of Black Sherif singing the massive hit song in an unidentified room in an earlier post, using the fire emoji to convey his feelings.

Blacko, with matching white clothing and white headgear, was seen having fun while wearing his distinctive necklace and earrings.

Khaled encouraged listeners to “keep going,” calling the song “Music that touches your spirit.”

Many Ghanaians responded to the post after realizing the significance of Khaled’s endorsement for the Ghanaian’s professional future.

Akufo-Addo, Bawumia must resign – Martin Kpebu

A private legal practitioner has asked President Akufo-Addo and his Vice, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to resign from their positions for their failure to fight corruption

According to Martin Kpebu, the President while in opposition rode on an anti-corruption campaign to win the 2016 general elections.

Thus, if he has failed to curb the menace, he and his government should step down for a more competent individual to deal with the canker.https://www.youtube.com/embed/44PEQu8ivhw

“[President] Akufo-Addo promised to make corruption unattractive and here is the case he is not doing anything about it. We want to try somebody else because he has shown, he is not able to and [Vice President] Bawumia has also shown he is not able to.

“The President can voluntarily go and that will be the best,” he told host of Newsfile, Samson Lardy Anyenini on Saturday.

Citing events from 1969, Mr Kpebu recounted how Head of State, Lieutenant General Joseph Arthur Ankrah resigned over a bribery allegation of about $20,000.

He indicated that President Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia can emulate the action of the former Head of State as far as bribery and corruption are concerned.

In his view, posterity will forgive all their shortcomings if they voluntarily resign.

“If [President] Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia step down today, they will get the best applause and history will forgive them for all the rots they have superintended.

“And Ghanaians will get a new opportunity to try someone else to deal with corruption,” he opined.

Mr Kpebu call for the President and his Vice’s resignation stems from a latest survey that unearths the extent of corruption in the country.

The survey by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) indicated that a total of ¢5 billion had been paid in bribes last year to access basic services in both the private and public sectors.

Dubbed ‘2021 Ghana Integrity of Public Services Survey’ indicates that 26.7% public sector officials were engaged in bribery acts, whilst 9.1% were officials from the private sector.

Prevalence of bribery in Ghana

The report also showed that the prevalence of bribery in Ghana is 26.7%, meaning one out of four people who had contact with a public official in the 12 months prior to the survey, had been asked to pay a bribe by a public official, or asked to pay bribe but refused to do so.

About ¢5bn in bribes paid in both private and public sectors in 2021 - GSS

The survey revealed that, on average, there is no difference in the prevalence of bribery in rural and urban areas of Ghana. There are, however, sizable variations across the 16 regions of the country.

On regional basis, the prevalence of bribery in the Bono East, Savannah and Volta regions, for example, were substantially lower than the national rate. The three regions recorded corruption cases of 11.8%, 14.5% and 19.1% respectively.

In the Western North, Ahafo and North East regions, the corrupt cases reported were substantially higher, at 53.4%, 47.0% and 41.9% respectively.

After I obtained her visa and flight ticket, a friend advised my wife to file for divorce – Italian-based Ghanaian Man Reveals

Francis Wiredu, a Ghanaian living in Italy, has recounted his story, which concerns his wife.
He claims that his wife was “advised” to divorce him by someone he believes to be a friend and that this “advice” occurred just as he was arranging for her to travel to Italy to live with him.

In an interview with SVTV Africa, he disclosed that his friend had informed his wife that he was likely having an extramarital affair with a woman in Italy.

He stated in his submission;

“I came to Ghana every two years. I have records of all the monies I’ve sent to her, but she told my family members that I wasn’t feeding her and that we had no communication. I sacrificed a lot to process her passport, visa and ticket. I even had to move into a new apartment because the old one was not big enough for the four of us. A week before her flight was due, she told my family that she was not interested in the marriage anymore.

“Due to our jobs, we don’t find time to go out for such things. It is even difficult for me to go to the bar once a year. You are always tired. I won’t have that trust to keep her here while I stay in Italy.”

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah claps back at Martin Kpebu

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah referred to attorney Martin Kpebu’s comment accusing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of leading illegal and dishonest acts in his administration as humiliating and unprofessional.

Although the nation protects the freedoms of expression and association, he claimed that the accusation lacked any basis in truth and that Ghanaians should exercise restraint in their words.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is charged by attorney Martin Kpebu of leading illegal and corrupt actions at the White House and while serving as president.

On Saturday, July 23, 2022, the private attorney claimed that the president was a “abysmal failure” in the battle against corruption during an interview with Joynews’ Newsfile show.

On the heels of the most recent report from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Martin Kpebu spoke (UNODC).

The first gentleman of the land is adamant about battling corruption under his watch, in the opinion of attorney Kpebu, which explains why the statistics keep getting worse.

“Akufo-Addo is a member of the Jubilee House crime syndicate. The president is undoubtedly involved. Without his participation, this corruption would not exist.

“Manasseh sprayed Zoomlion and did that thing. What was the purpose of the spraying while schools were shuttered during the Corona period and students were scheduled to return in three months?

“You follow Manasseh’s story, it lands on the president’s desk. Other stories land on their desks. The president; we have to say with all our energy, is part of that criminal syndicate and that we will not take this from you, you have to just step down,” he said.

However, the communications minister responded by calling Martin Kpebu’s remark “shameful and unprofessional.”

“It is dishonorable and wholly unprofessional to hear lawyer Kpebu accuse the President of the Republic of belonging to a criminal syndicate without any supporting evidence.”

“Even more worrying is the fact that a media house which is to be respected airs such content and happily reproduces it on websites and social media in a bid to achieve clicks and revenues on the backdrop of unfounded insults at its national leaders. We all uphold freedom of speech and association, but let’s be responsible in how we do this. ” He tweeted

Kumasi International Airport should be named in honor of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II– Gov’t urged

Nana Obiri Boahen, a private attorney, has acknowledged the King of Asante Kingdom Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s significant role to the creation of the Kumasi International Airport.
According to the former deputy general secretary of the government’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), the project’s name should be changed to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II International Airport because the King’s involvement in the ongoing Kumasi Airport cannot be diminished by any political party or individual.

After all, Kotoka inspired the name of the Accra Airport, and that's okay. We didn't give Accra Airport a name. In the same line, Nana Obiri Boahen said on Wontumi TV, which countryghana.com/ was watching, "I think we should call the Kumasi Airport Otumfuo Osei Tutu II International Airport."

He continued, “Everyone is hesitant to discuss this, but given his achievements and leadership positions in the project, I wonder why we won’t name the Kumasi Airport after him. During the interview, Nana Obiri Boahen grilled Oheneba Asiedu, the host.

The buyer credit and commercial contract agreements between the government and select corporations for the building of the international airports in Kumasi and Tamale were passed by Parliament in November 2016.

The government and Banco Santander S. A. and its affiliates entered into the first buyer credit agreement for €65,037,500 to build a portion of the Kumasi International Airport.

Additionally, the government and Banco Santander S. A. and its affiliates entered into a tied commercial credit arrangement for a total amount of €7,762,500 for the building of another airport sector.

The government and Contracta Construction UK Limited entered into a commercial contract for the design and execution of work for the development of the Kumasi International Airport for a total of €66,350,000.
