It’s a lie; I’ve never advocated for sitting NPP MPs to be unchallenged, says Bawumia

I t’s a lie; I’ve never advocated for sitting NPP MPs to be unchallenged, says Bawumia:The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, denied calls for all current mps to run unopposed in the next parliamentary primary.

He claims that he could not have said it because the NPP’s constitution forbids even the possibility of such a situation.

Dr. Bawumia, a candidate for the NPP’s flagbearer position in the general elections of 2024, claimed that his opponents are using this as a ruse to attack him, but that it will fail.

As part of his nationwide engagement with party executives ahead of the NPP Presidential Primary, Dr. Bawumia made a statement at the Tatale-Sanguli constituency in the Northern Region on Tuesday, October 24. He said, “The third lie I have heard this morning is that I want to say that all sitting MPs should go unopposed and nobody should contest a sitting MP. Who am I to say that?

“Even the party constitution prohibits such. Since democracy makes this party stronger, I will never advocate for incumbent MPs to be unchallenged.

He continued, “Any constituency must have unanimity, so that falsehood should be left alone. However, as I’ve said, their strategy is for you to miss the ball and not the man, but in this case, you will miss the man because we won’t let their falsehoods take root.

The NPP is getting ready for the election of a flagbearer for the 2024 elections on November 4.

The rules for the primary elections, which will be held at all 276 of the country’s constituencies and the Party Headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, have already been made public by the Presidential Elections Committee.

The committee said in a statement that the guidelines described the processes and regulations for the primary elections that would choose a presidential candidate for the general election in 2024.

The Electoral Commission (EC) is in charge of overseeing the elections and is fully responsible for making sure they are transparent, free, and fair. No one, including party officials and everyone else, is allowed to act against the EC and these rules.

The Presidential Elections Committee said, “The security actions lie completely with the police and access beyond security perimeters is restricted to Delegates, Members of the Presidential Elections Committee, Candidates, and their accredited agents. The Party’s Presidential Elections Committee was given a constitutional mandate by National Council to oversee the planning and execution of the Presidential Candidate election, according to the committee.

The committee added that there should be no camping of delegates, constituency-specific accreditation, and media accreditation. The committee also stated that there shall be no campaigning, canvassing for votes, or assembling of party members for any reason the day before voting.

“Voters are expected to freely enter the voting booth on their own. The physically disabled may receive assistance. Before entering the perimeter, a voter must wait to be cleared by queue control. At the voting location, no voter may wear attire bearing the color or likeness of a candidate (such as T-shirts, hats, or posters of candidates). Delegates are not permitted to enter the voting booth or screen in pairs or in groups.

Voting must take place outdoors, in full view of the public, rather than indoors. Unauthorized individuals are prohibited from entering the voting area. A delegate who has already cast their vote is not allowed to enter the voting area again. According to the committee, anyone caught telling a delegate who to vote for is guilty of an offense and will be removed by the police.

Mepe’s flood situation has been controlled, according to the Ghana Armed Forces

Mepe’s flood situation has been controlled, according to the Ghana Armed Forces: According to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), as of Sunday, October 22, the flooding situation in Mepe, a community in the Volta Region that was severely impacted by the Akosombo Dam breach, has been brought under great control.

GAF made this statement while denying rumors that military personnel who had been sent to Mepe for humanitarian relief operations had been evacuated.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a North Tongu member of parliament, had earlier claimed that the military had been requested to leave the neighborhood.

When the water levels haven’t dropped and hundreds of lives are at risk in the camps across these waters, who “above” has given instructions for the military detachment assisting us to cross flood waters to quickly withdraw?

“Who in the government is responsible for this heinous cruelty?” Tweeted him.

In contrast, Mr. Ablakwa stated in a another tweet that he had just received a call stating that the order had been revoked and that the soldiers should report back with their boats and resume their duties.

We’ll soon remove those anonymous, anti-American components.

The GAF issued a statement in response to this event in which it unequivocally declared that “the information in circulation is untrue” and that, in contrast to social media posts, “the personnel have not been given any ‘orders from above’ to withdraw from Mepe or any other neighborhood affected by the spillage.

“It must be emphasized that the Humanitarian Relief Operations (Operation Boafo), being carried out by the 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Army and the Ghana Navy’s Riverine Command, are being carried out in phases. Since the situation in Mepe has been largely under control as of October 22, 2023, it has become urgently necessary to redeploy certain personnel and equipment to other troubled settlements around Battor and its surrounds that are in urgent need of assistance.

The operations being carried out have changed as a result of the deployment of more troops and equipment to these struggling towns. It must be noted that GAF has set up an Emergency Operations Center specifically for this operation, and that center is working with NADMO to synchronize all of GAF’s efforts.

According to the needs of the situation, members of the Naval Riverine Command and the Army’s 48 Engineer Regiment are still deployed and carrying out relief operations (Operation Boafo) in the nearby communities of Mepe, Battor, Sogakope, Adidome, Aveyime, New Bakpa, Big Ada, and Ada Foah.Ten naval boats and four (four) engineer assault boats are available to this staff. Since October 13, 2023, GAF has saved around 12,000 people.

Dr. Bawumia asserts that the NPP is not a tribalist group

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential Aspirant Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged delegates to reject the idea that the party is tribal and support him heavily in order to “Break the 8” in 2024.
He argued that he was the only candidate the opposition National Democratic conference (NDC) feared would appear on the presidential ballot and urged party members to rally behind ‘Team Bawumia’ by supporting him heavily at the party conference in November.

“I am the third person from the North to run in the party’s presidential primary, and all sixteen regions are behind Dr. Bawumia because I have what it takes to win the 2024 elections,” he stated.

“In the NPP, we’re attempting to achieve something that has never been done. We’re dismantling the Eight. I chose the form when the party opened the nomination period so I could split the eight votes for the New Patriotic Party, he claimed.

In an address to party members in Tumu prior to the polls on November 4, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia claimed there was good reason to pick him as the party’s leader because he had won all 16 regions in the Super Delegates Congress.

“Our opponents claim that we vote along tribal lines, which is contrary to our party’s history, antecedents, and history of defamation.

On November 4, 2023, we will convey a message that we are a national party to demonstrate to them that we are not a tribalistic party, Dr. Bawumia remarked.

Because we are made up of various political groups from across the nation, history teaches us that the party doesn’t indulge in tribal politics when we pick leaders.

The Anlo Youth Congress, the Ga People, the Muslim Association Party, the National Liberation Movement from Ashanti, and the Northern Peoples Party from the North all merged to form the United Party, which is now the NPP, and those are our forebears, he said.

The vice president emphasized that the Northern Peoples Party gained 12 seats in the 1954 elections whereas Busia’s party only secured one.

As a result, he claimed, the Northern People’s Party became the largest opposition group, but it also gave Professor Kofi Abrefa Busia the position of opposition leader, which “tells you one thing: the Northern People’s Party was not choosing leadership on tribal lines.”

He said that in recent history, former President John A. Kufuor’s opponent from the North, Alhaji Malik Alhassan Yakubu, was the first candidate from the North to run for the NPP. However, the people of the North chose Kufuor because the party preferred candidates who could win elections, he said.

He emphasized that this demonstrated the North’s lack of tribalism and that the North did not support Alhaji Malik Alhassan Yakubu.

The fact that Alhaji Aliu Mahama, of blessed memory, ran against the present president Akuffo Addo during that time period also demonstrated how the North voted for Nana Addo, thus demonstrating the fact that the party does not consistently cast its votes based on tribe, according to Dr. Bawumia.

When Adu Boahen ran for office, the Ashanti region voted for him from the Eastern area rather than Kufuor, who is from the Ashanti, he claimed, adding that the Ashanti do not vote along ethnic lines, thus their situation was the same as the North’s.

Since he had run for president four times and had been well-marketed, Vice President Bawumia claimed to be the most experienced candidate among those running right now.

“I know the crowd and the ground,” he told the delegates. “The party has marketed me across the country, and I know how to beat my opponent.”

In order to address the issue of the division between the government and party, Dr. Bawumia promised to provide each constituency ten appointments and each area twenty appointments.

While creating a database of the requirements of the party members, he declared that he would make the designated individuals, particularly those working in state institutions, the Godfathers and God Mothers of the constituency.

Video: I’ve dollars, I’ll pay twice of what competitors will offer delegates – Bibiani MP

I’ve dollars, I’ll pay twice of what competitors will offer delegates – Bibiani MP :The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary ticket for the 2024 general election is something that Alfred Obeng-Boateng, the member of parliament for the Bibiani Anhwiaso Constituency, has made clear he is willing to buy from NPP delegates.

The MP said in a popular audio clip shared by Sompa FM that he paid as much as GHC3,000 per delegate during the previous primaries and that he is prepared to compete with any rivals in terms of delegate payment.

“I knew from the beginning that despite all the opposition I encountered while assuming my position, people would band together more forces and resources to support a single opponent.

So, in light of everything, I am aware of everyone’s financial capacity and upper limit. So I am aware of how much they can easily pull without being concerned. You can give out GHC1,000 to each person without hesitation when you have, let’s say, a million Ghana cedis.

The MP stated, “So, with roughly 1,200 delegates, we are set to go for primaries. The last time, we spent at least GHC3,000 each individual, and the primaries are coming again.

In order to protect himself from the effects of inflation, he stressed that he had particularly stored money in dollars. He also stated that he was willing to pay up to GHC 20,000 to each of the 2,200 delegates in the constituency in order to guarantee the party’s parliamentary ticket.

To be completely honest with you, I’m telling you that the funding for the primaries has been secured in dollars and has been for a long time. I will not, under any circumstances, touch that money.

I am laughing because I have money there for the primaries and I see everything they are doing. What I can say to my delegates is that I will pay more than twice what any challenger to me will offer them, and they should accept that from me. I will provide more than that if they agree to pay GHC10,000 per delegate. Because I am aware of how much I have invested and how much I have set aside, I will pay more than GHC 20,000, regardless of what they pay. To prevent the currency from losing value, I saved in dollars because of this,” he said.

As the Vice Chair of the Government Assurance Committee of the Parliament, Alfred Obeng-Boateng is a new member of the legislature.

Prior to the 2024 national elections, the NPP is getting ready to choose a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates.

Small-Scale Miners Association Leader shot, key suspect on the run

Small-Scale Miners Association Leader shot, key suspect on the run :Police in the Eastern Region are on a manhunt for a youth leader and miner, Danso, who is accused of shooting Major Patrick Don-Chebe, the Commanding Officer of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners Taskforce.

The suspect who is on the run, is said to have gone to a mining site around Asamang Tamfoe where the taskforce acting on intelligence had gone to clamp down on illegal miners operating in the area, ostensibly to prevent the suspects from being taken into custody.

He was allegedly in the company of another accomplice on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

Danso and Joe arrived at the scene, with Joe openly armed and approaching the taskforce, but members of the taskforce who overpowered and disarmed him were caught off guard when Danso drew a pistol concealed under his shirt and shot Patrick Don-Chebe in the ribcage at close range.

Danso and Joe, on the other hand, were able to depart the scene while members of the taskforce rushed to assist their commander.

The victim was rushed to the Kibi government hospital for treatment.

Medical officers who were attending to him quickly referred him to the 37 military hospital in an ambulance, where he was immediately operated on.

After an official report was filed at the police station, the accomplice, Joe was apprehended.

Danson, on the other hand, fled the scene and has been on the run ever since.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng: I am not an NPP traitor; I am a patriotic citizen

Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a former minister for the environment, science, technology, and innovation, has highlighted that despite his criticism of the government, he is not a traitor to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He made it clear that the goal of his hot takes on governance is to support the NPP and advance Ghana as a country.

I don’t think I’m criticizing or assaulting the administration, no, he said in an interview with TV3’s Kemini Amanor for the Hot Issues show. I’m sharing my opinions in order to strengthen the party and make Ghana a better place because the president stated that we should be participants rather than observers.

He firmly answered, “Not at all,” when asked if he would consider himself a traitor in the NPP. I will state that I am a patriot. The term “traitor” is too far from my residence.

In a 36-page report published in March 2019 under the title “Report on the work of IMCIM so far and the way forward,” Professor Frimpong-Boateng made various claims about government officials who were engaged in unlawful small-scale mining (galamsey).

The report, which was presented to the president via the Chief of Staff, claimed that government employees, lawmakers, and regular residents were involved in galamsey.

After reviewing the report, the Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, advised the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) that the people identified in the report disputed the charges and that efforts to find more evidence to support the assertions were fruitless.

The Attorney-General went on to say that police investigations had turned up no evidence to back up the accusations, therefore he came to the conclusion that there was no foundation for filing criminal charges against the people named in the report.

The Attorney-General’s assertions were refuted by Professor Frimpong-Boateng, who said, “It is not true, I fully cooperated with the CID, and I am not an investigative agent.”

I’m sorry for the Akoto-Ampaw family’s tragic loss, and I trust that God will keep them safe during this trying time. May my friend’s soul, who has passed away, rest in peace.

On October 20, 2023, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), Akoto Ampaw, a well-known lawyer, human rights advocate, and opponent of corruption, passed away.

He gained notoriety for his work as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s principal attorney during the 2020 election petition and as a member of the New Patriotic Party’s legal team during the 2013 Electoral Petition.

He has fought for equal justice and human rights throughout his career, and his areas of expertise include commercial law, corporate law, industrial law, litigation, constitutional law, media law, labor law, and investment law.

Akoto Ampaw also made a point of speaking out against the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill that is presently being debated in Parliament.

He earned a B.L. from the Ghana School of Law in 1993 and an LL.B. from the University of Ghana in 1973. His departure leaves a big hole in Ghana’s judicial system and human rights movement.

National Chief Imam’s security personnel assault EIB journalist

National Chief Imam’s security personnel assault EIB journalist :Mr. Panpanko stated that “so, I was driving from the Ofankor roundabout headed towards Tantra roundabout, mile 7. And I was driving in the inner lane. So while I was moving, I saw a motorcycle coming from behind me.

“And the reason why I noticed the motorcycle that fast is because the motorcycle came right to the driver’s side, behind me, and was trying to squeeze to enter. So I was wondering what the problem was. And he started signaling to me that I should move off the road.

“Then he moved off from that side and then came to the other side, the passenger side on the right side. And he started insulting me. What is wrong with me? Can’t I see that I have to move off the road?

“The guy used his helmet to hit me through the window like 4 times. And the other guys were slapping me and hitting me. So I was just trying to protect myself, with my hands. One of them eventually struck me in the forehead.

“That’s why I was bleeding a little bit in the forehead. And then my upper lip too, you know, got cut a little bit. So after they had finished beating and they were satisfied, they got back into the car. And then the motor rider, before he rode off, used his hand to hit my side mirror again and then broke the side mirror and then they sped off.”

Mr. Panpanko stated that he has reported the incident to the Mile 7 Police Station and they are yet to effect any arrest.
