Javan Settles, a firefighter with the Ontario Fire Department, tragically passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024. His death occurred off-duty, and no cause has been publicly listed.
Settles had served with the Ontario Fire Department (OFD) for a year, having joined in 2023 after previously serving with distinction at the FDNY and the Long Beach Fire Department. The OFD praised Settles for his excellent work ethic and overwhelmingly positive attitude, noting that he left an enduring legacy despite his relatively short period of service.
The Long Beach Fire Department, where Settles worked for nearly 11 years, also expressed shock and sorrow at his passing. They described him as deeply loved, highly respected, and dearly missed.
Originally from Queens, New York, Settles graduated from Royal High School in 1998 and later from Queensborough Community College of CUNY in 2005 with a degree in Sports and Exercise. He began his firefighting career with the New York City Fire Department in 2006 before moving to Long Beach in 2012 and then to Ontario in 2023.
