Accra, August 26, 2026 — Kailani Ibrahim Kpa, the Ghanaian superfan popularly known as the “Powder Man” for his viral powder-spraying celebrations while supporting the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has appeared before the Accra Circuit Court on alleged visa fraud charges.
Police arrested Kpa in East Legon, Accra, earlier this week. He is accused of collecting more than $30,000 from over 13 people after promising to facilitate their travel to Canada, Nicaragua, and the United States. The deals reportedly fell through, leading complainants to report the matter to authorities.
The Documentation and Visa Fraud Unit of the Ghana Police Service Headquarters handled the case. According to reports citing Ghanaian blogger Nkonkonsa, Kpa was picked up and is facing the allegations in court.
Kpa rose to global prominence during Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. Television cameras frequently captured him in the stands dramatically spraying white powder into the air during matches, turning him into one of the tournament’s most recognisable supporters. The footage spread widely online, drawing both praise for his passion and light-hearted speculation about “juju.” He later described the act as theatrical rather than spiritual.
During the tournament, Kpa publicly stated that he had self-funded his trip, including visas for the United States and Canada and flights from Accra to Toronto, Boston, and Philadelphia. He later appealed for logistical support to continue following the team after running short of funds.
The court appearance marks a sharp turn for the once-celebrated fan. Details of the specific charges, any plea, and bail conditions were not immediately available in initial reports. The case is expected to proceed through the Accra Circuit Court as investigations continue.
Authorities have not released further statements beyond confirming the arrest and court process. Kpa’s legal representatives had not publicly commented at the time of writing.
