Nine others and ECG owe the GRA more than GH¢1 billion in outstanding taxes.

Date:

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is reportedly in debt to ten state entities, including the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), for approximately GH¢1 billion in unpaid taxes.

Some of the institutions listed that are still in operation have stated their intention to pay the taxes, according to representatives of the government’s revenue branch.

On Monday, July 29, 2024, at their appearance before the Public Accounts Committee, representatives from the GRA disclosed this information.

“Currently, GACL and Graphic Corporation are facing cash flow issues. They’ve told us that in order for them to pay us back, we must give them a moratorium. As a result, once their cash flow situation improves, they are eager to pay their debts, the GRA official is cited by citinewsroom.com as stating.

“Mr. Chairman, we have done this before,” said Abena Osei-Asare, Minister of State in the Finance Ministry, during the meeting. After going through a procedure and presenting it to parliament, some of it was rejected. After trying everything to get these money, if it still becomes necessary, we will go through that procedure and ask parliament for approval.

In the meantime, the Public Accounts Committee asked for action to address the situation and guarantee that non-functioning state companies like the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) become sustainable in order to avert more financial losses.
