The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has officially announced the upcoming rollout of a redesigned family of currency, introducing the much-anticipated New Ghana Cedi Banknotes. Scheduled to enter circulation in November, this new currency family—dubbed the Heritage Series—aims to address growing concerns regarding counterfeiting while improving the physical lifespan of the notes currently used in daily transactions across the country.

Speaking on the structural updates, central bank officials emphasized that the redesign is not merely cosmetic. The new notes incorporate cutting-edge security architecture designed to safeguard the integrity of the Ghanaian financial system.

Enhanced Security Features and Durability

As digital and physical commerce evolves, currency security remains a top priority for the central bank. The New Ghana Cedi Banknotes will feature state-of-the-art anti-counterfeiting mechanisms, including advanced color-shifting elements, tactile markings for the visually impaired, and reinforced substrate materials.
