The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has outrightly rejected the parliamentary election results recently re-collated and announced by the Electoral Commission (EC), labeling them as fraudulent and a violation of Ghana’s democratic ethos.
In a press release issued on December 21, 2024, and endorsed by General Secretary Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC condemned the results as being declared under dubious and unlawful conditions, which they argue betrays the democratic will of Ghanaian citizens. The party has accused the EC, under the leadership of Jean Mensa, of actions that severely undermine the credibility of Ghana’s electoral system, thus eroding public confidence in the institution.
The statement from the NDC stated, “It is abundantly clear that the Electoral Commission… has opted for a route of illegality and impunity,” warning that electoral misconduct would not go unpunished.
Accusations were leveled at the EC for allegedly conspiring with the police and military to skew the results towards specific political agendas. The NDC also highlighted the EC’s non-compliance with a judicial directive to halt the announcement of results, describing this as a “blatant disregard for the law” and part of a larger plot to destabilize Ghana’s democracy.
The NDC expressed disappointment over the lack of response from entities like the National Peace Council regarding these serious allegations.
Urging international attention, the NDC pointed out the risks these actions pose to Ghana’s peace, stability, and democratic advancement. They pledged to rally their supporters to counteract any efforts to subvert the electorate’s choice.
“The NDC will not relent in its fight to defend the will of the people and ensure justice prevails,” the statement concluded, calling on the government and EC to cease actions that threaten democratic integrity.
The NDC remains resolute in its mission to uphold the sanctity of Ghana’s voting process and ensure the authentic expression of the electorate’s voice from the December 7 polls is honored.
