NAGRAT Demands Immediate Nationwide Audit of Student Enrolment Data in Ghana

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has issued a stern call for a comprehensive and transparent nationwide audit of student enrolment data across all public educational institutions in Ghana. Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, union leadership emphasized that bloated or inaccurate enrollment figures are severely compromising the quality of education and placing an unsustainable burden on school administrators and teaching staff.

The Core Challenges Facing Public Schools

According to NAGRAT, discrepancies in reported student numbers have a direct ripple effect on classroom management, infrastructure allocation, and the distribution of teaching-learning materials. When official figures fail to match the reality on the ground, schools often find themselves grappling with severe congestion, overstretched dormitory facilities, and critical shortages of basic textbooks. Accurate data remains the bedrock of proper educational planning, yet many headmasters and headmistresses report struggling to cope with numbers that defy logistical realities.

Infrastructure Strain and Teacher Burnout

The pressure of managing inflated class sizes has contributed significantly to teacher burnout across the country. Educators are routinely expected to manage classes that far exceed standard pedagogical ratios. NAGRAT argues that an independent audit will expose ghost names, rectify anomalies in the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), and ensure that government per capita interventions and feeding grants are directed to where they are genuinely needed.

Government and Stakeholder Response

As discussions continue between teacher unions, the Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Education Service (GES), stakeholders are weighing the operational framework required to execute a seamless audit. Educational analysts note that restoring credibility to student enrolment metrics is vital for long-term sector budgeting and policy formulation. NAGRAT has maintained that until these data integrity issues are decisively resolved, the quest to achieve equitable and high-quality education in Ghana will continue to face systemic headwinds.
