Kikam Technical Institute Revived: Ellembelle MP Commissions 12-Unit Block After Decades of Abandonment

Reviving Technical Education in the Western Region

In a major boost for vocational training in the Western Region, the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art 12-unit classroom block at the Kikam Technical Institute. The project brings an end to decades of stagnation that left vital educational infrastructure abandoned and deteriorating.

For years, students and faculty at the institution grappled with severe infrastructure deficits, forcing school authorities to manage classes in constrained and poorly ventilated spaces. The completion of this facility is expected to significantly improve the teaching and learning environment, paving the way for increased enrollment in practical disciplines.

Tackling Infrastructure Deficits in Ghanaian Schools

Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) plays a critical role in tackling youth unemployment and driving industrialization in Ghana. However, many public technical institutions have historically suffered from abandoned projects due to shifting political administrations and budgetary constraints.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, local leaders and educational stakeholders praised the intervention, emphasizing that modernizing institutions like Kikam Technical Institute is essential for equipping the youth with employable, hands-on skills. The newly inaugurated block features well-furnished classrooms, staff common areas, and modern ancillary facilities designed to meet contemporary academic standards.

Community and Stakeholder Reactions

The abandonment of the project had long been a source of frustration for residents and traditional authorities in the Ellembelle constituency. Community leaders expressed immense relief during the handover ceremony, noting that the completed infrastructure will reduce the burden on parents and provide students with a conducive atmosphere for academic excellence.

School administrators have urged the government and corporate partners to sustain support for technical education by supplying up-to-date workshop equipment, ensuring that graduates from Kikam remain competitive in the fast-evolving Ghanaian labor market.
