Media personality Johnnie Hughes has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to cease holding what he describes as unnecessary press conferences and to promptly declare the election results. During his show, Hughes criticized the EC, asserting that despite the commission’s claims of functionality, it is not effectively fulfilling its duties.
Hughes expressed his disappointment, particularly in Jean Mensah, who previously led significant electoral reforms. He remarked, “The EC will tell you they are functioning, but they are not. Can we no longer add 1+1 to make 2? I’m surprised because Jean Mensah was one of the women we looked up to at the IEA. She led the reforms that have shaped the elections we see today. She was the one telling us that the players on the pitch were not playing well and needed guidance, but now that she’s on the field, she can’t even find the ball to kick.”
He emphasized that the EC must remember its duty to serve the people of Ghana transparently and efficiently. Hughes concluded by urging the EC to declare the results in accordance with CI127 and respect the will of the Ghanaian people, who endured long lines and harsh conditions to cast their votes.
