Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) director of elections and information technology, has urged the National Peace Council, traditional chiefs, and everyone else who values peace to speak out against the violence that marred the NPP’s most recent super delegates conference.
Ali Zakaria, an agent for one of the candidates, Mr. Alan Kyerematen, was struck in the eye during the voting on August 26 and had to be brought to the Baptist Medical Center (BMC) for medical treatment.
According to Dr. Omane Boamah, the violence specifically took place at a time when democracy in the disputed sub-region is under danger.
“The NPP orchestrated violence in Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election went unpunished,” he claimed in a statement. Following that, eight (8) innocent Ghanaians were brutally murdered during the 2020 presidential and legislative elections. Additionally, no one was prosecuted for the authorized military invasion of the chamber of parliament on January 7, 2021, at dawn.
“The Akufo-Addo Bawumia led NPP descended hard on its own during the recently concluded blood-tainted Super Delegates elections clash, leaving blood seeping facial injuries, the truth being that their ambition for power knows no bounds. There are questions for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, but he has chosen to disregard them just as he has chosen not to respond to pertinent inquiries about the economy.
“Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen might not make it through the Bawumia camp’s violence, but the NPP must realize this is the last time violence will bring them victory.
“Peace-loving Ghanaians, including religious and traditional leaders, must condemn violence, especially at a time when democracy is at risk in our contentious subregion.
“Believe that in 2024, the NDC will overcome this aggressive NPP mob. I implore all unregistered voters to do so beginning on September 12, 2023.
