Ferdinard Blankson Wins GRASAG-UG Presidency
In a decisive electoral outcome at the premier university, Ferdinard Blankson has been officially elected as the President of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana, University of Ghana (GRASAG-UG) chapter. Alongside him, Samuel Yeboah secured the mandate to serve as the Vice President, ushering in a new leadership team tasked with steering the affairs of the student body for the academic year.
The elections, which drew high voter turnout and intense campaigns across various departments on the Legon campus, reflected the deep engagement of postgraduate scholars in campus governance and national academic discourse. The incoming executives take the helm at a crucial time when student welfare, research funding, and accommodation remain top priorities for the academic community.
Vision for Postgraduate Welfare and Academic Excellence
Addressing supporters and student delegates following the announcement of the results, Ferdinard Blankson expressed profound gratitude for the trust reposed in him and his running mate. He emphasized that the primary focus of his administration will be bridging the gap between student needs and institutional support systems.
“Our victory is a testament to the collective desire for progressive leadership,” Blankson stated during his victory address. “As your GRASAG UG President, I am committed to fighting for improved research grants, timely processing of academic records, and better living conditions for all graduate students on campus.”
Key Pillars of the New Administration
The newly elected executive team has outlined a comprehensive blueprint aimed at transforming the postgraduate experience at the University of Ghana. Key areas of focus include:
- Research and Innovation Support: Collaborating with university management to secure enhanced funding avenues for thesis and dissertation research.
- Welfare and Accommodation: Addressing the chronic shortage of dedicated postgraduate housing facilities and negotiating subsidized utility tariffs.
- Professional Development: Launching industry-linkage workshops, mentorship programs, and networking symposiums to prepare students for the corporate and public sectors.
Samuel Yeboah Highlights Unity and Inclusivity
On his part, Vice President-elect Samuel Yeboah called for unity among all factions following the keenly contested polls. Yeboah stressed that the electioneering period is over, and the collective energy of the student body must now be channeled toward constructive nation-building and academic excellence.
“We ran an inclusive campaign, and our administration will govern with an open-door policy. Every graduate student’s voice matters,” Yeboah noted. The transition of power from the outgoing executives to the Blankson-led administration is expected to commence immediately, with orientation sessions scheduled to brief the new leaders on ongoing projects and financial standings.
