The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has taken decisive action by closing down the McDan Aviation Private Jet Terminal, referred to as Terminal 1, over an alleged debt of more than $3 million. The debt encompasses various charges such as land leases, rentals, and fees for using the terminal, which McDan Aviation has failed to pay.
To enforce the closure, police have been deployed at the terminal’s entrance, ensuring no access is granted. This action has garnered backing from the Ghana Airport Company Divisional Union of the Public Services Workers Union of TUC. Union chairman, Alhaji Abdul Issaka Bamba, stressed to GHOne/Starr News that the payment of the outstanding debt was long overdue, sending a stern message to other partners in similar financial situations.
This isn’t the first time McDan Aviation has faced such a penalty; in February 2022, GACL previously suspended the company’s operations at Terminal 1 at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) due to breaches in operational compliance.
