The newly-installed Queen mother of Yaluvi-Lokukope in the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region, Mama Deyenawo II, has been asked by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Alban S. K Bagbin, to promote female child education in her traditional territory.
The Speaker emphasized the significance of female child education to the growth and development of the nation in a speech delivered on his behalf by his aide, Mr. Peter Bamfo.
He pointed out that, particularly in rural regions, traditional leaders should take the lead in advocating for increased female school enrollment.
“Women are essential to the national development of every nation. Whereas Ghana has made significant progress over the years in terms of women’s engagement in national debate and the day-to-day operation of the state, it is crucial to maintain and even expand upon this success. To enable our daughters to assume the role of leadership in all aspects of life, I emphasize the importance of focusing on girl child education, he stated.
Mama Deyenawo, formerly Miss Monica Amenzah, was crowned queen mother on March 25, 2023, at Lokukope in the Volta Region’s Akatsi South District during a vibrant ceremony.
Traditional and religious figures, as well as local politicians and opinion leaders, attended the ceremony with a traditional theme.
Hon. Benard Ahiafor, the local member of parliament, assured Mama Deyenawo II of his support and promised to work with her to further the goals of the residents of Akatsi South.
“I’ve known Mama (Deyenawo II) for a while, and I firmly believe she will succeed. I’m standing here today fully devoted to the ambitions of our people and the traditional Akatsi leaders.
For her part, Mama Deleynawo II thanked the chiefs, elders, and residents of the region for the honor bestowed upon her and pledged to be a mother to all, especially to the motherless.
