Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to his critics, saying that he is “not done” and will continue to play until his legs tell him to stop.
In an interview with Portuguese television channel TVI, Ronaldo said: “They say Ronaldo is done… but it’s not true. I will continue to play until my legs say: Cristiano, I’m done.
“I still have a lot. I still love football and scoring goals. I still love winning. They say I’m done but I’m still proving that it’s not true.”
Ronaldo is now 37 years old but is still one of the most prolific goalscorers in the world. He scored 18 goals in 30 appearances for Manchester United last season and has scored over 700 goals for club and country in his career.
He is also the all-time leading goalscorer in the Champions League, with 141 goals.
Ronaldo’s comments come after a difficult season for Manchester United, who finished sixth in the Premier League and failed to qualify for the Champions League.
The club has also been in turmoil off the pitch, with a number of protests from fans.
However, Ronaldo has insisted that he is committed to helping the club return to success.
He said: “I know that the fans are not happy with the situation, but I want to tell them that I am here to help the club. I am here to win.
“I am not done yet.”
Ronaldo’s contract with Manchester United expires next summer, but he has said that he is open to extending his stay at the club.
He said: “I am happy in Manchester. I have a contract for another year and I will see what happens after that.”
