Cole Kelly, a resident of Houston, TX, has been identified as one of the occupants involved in a severe car accident in the Upper Kirby neighborhood near River Oaks Elementary School.
The accident occurred just after 3 a.m. on Thursday in the 2100 block of Kirby Drive near San Felipe Street. Reports indicate that a Lexus SUV, traveling at high speed, lost control, hit a curb, flipped onto its roof, and collided with a tree.
Three men in their 20s were inside the vehicle. Tragically, the driver and a back passenger died, while the front passenger survived. Paramedics had to cut into the vehicle to reach the victims.
The surviving passenger, currently in stable condition at the hospital, stated that they were returning from a party where the driver had been drinking. Sgt. David Rose of the Houston PD confirmed that the SUV was traveling significantly over the speed limit, which contributed to the severity of the crash.
Online reports have identified one of the victims as Cole Kelly, a former student-athlete known for his achievements in baseball and football. It remains unclear whether Kelly was the driver, front, or back passenger.
