Bengals Suffer Blowout Loss to Browns in Season Opener

Date:

The Cincinnati Bengals suffered a humiliating 24-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns in their season opener on Sunday. The Bengals were outplayed in all phases of the game, and they never really got anything going offensively.

Joe Burrow was held to just 82 passing yards, and he was sacked four times. Ja’Marr Chase had just two catches for 19 yards. The Bengals’ running game was also ineffective, as they managed just 68 yards on the ground.

The Browns, on the other hand, were led by quarterback Baker Mayfield, who threw for 246 yards and two touchdowns. Nick Chubb rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown.

The Bengals’ defense was also a major liability. They gave up 172 yards rushing and allowed the Browns to convert 10 of 15 third downs.

The loss was a major disappointment for the Bengals, who were hoping to build on their success from last season. They will need to find a way to get things turned around quickly if they want to contend for the AFC North title.

Here are some of the reasons for the Bengals’ blowout loss:

  • The weather: The game was played in rainy conditions, which made it difficult for both teams to pass the ball. The Bengals were particularly affected by the weather, as they were unable to get their passing game going.
  • The Browns’ defense: The Browns’ defense was the difference in the game. They were able to pressure Burrow all day long, and they also made some big plays in the secondary.
  • The Bengals’ penalties: The Bengals were penalized 10 times for 100 yards. These penalties kept drives alive for the Browns and prevented the Bengals from getting into a rhythm.
  • The Bengals’ turnovers: The Bengals turned the ball over twice, which led to touchdowns for the Browns. These turnovers were costly, and they helped to swing the momentum of the game.
