Antioch High School Shooting in Nashville Leaves Two Dead, One Injured

Date:

An Antioch High School student in South Nashville turned a routine school day into a tragedy by shooting two classmates in the cafeteria before committing suicide. The incident took place at approximately 11:09 a.m. on Wednesday.

The shooter, identified as a 17-year-old male, used a pistol to shoot a 16-year-old Hispanic female, who succumbed to her injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Another victim, a 17-year-old female, sustained a minor arm injury but is in stable condition. After the shooting, the perpetrator took his own life.

The school, known for its diverse student body of over 2,200 students from various linguistic backgrounds and its focus on STEM and international baccalaureate programs, was immediately locked down. Following the incident, students were bussed to Ascension St. Thomas Hospital on Murfreesboro Road for a safe reunion with their families.

This event marks another dark chapter following the Covenant School shooting in 2023, where six lives were lost, and a subsequent shooting on Jefferson Street, where multiple individuals were injured or killed. The community of Nashville is once again grappling with the aftermath of gun violence in educational settings.
