19-Year-Old Jailed 15 Years with Hard Labour for Robbery and Causing Harm in Asabi

Date:

A 19-year-old man, Ahmed Mustapha, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbery and causing harm at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Mustapha pleaded guilty to the charges. He was arrested in possession of a mobile phone belonging to the victim and a cutlass (machete) believed to have been used in the attack.

The incident occurred in the early hours of July 21, 2026. Around 12:20 a.m., the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team received information that a man had been robbed of his mobile phone and left unconscious near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.

Officers rushed to the scene. Upon seeing the police, the suspect fled and hid in an uncompleted building. He was pursued and arrested. A search of Mustapha recovered the victim’s phone and the cutlass, which were retained as exhibits.

The victim sustained machete wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand. He was rushed to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital for treatment. Police later visited him at the facility and found he had regained consciousness and was in a stable condition.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed the arrest at the time and stated that the suspect was assisting with investigations. The subsequent court proceedings resulted in the 15-year sentence with hard labour following his guilty plea.

The case underscores ongoing efforts by police in the Ashanti Region to combat violent crime, particularly robberies involving weapons.
