Later on today, November 10, 2022, the Ghanaian Parliament will vote to reprimand Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

The goal of the censure motion submitted by the minority in parliament is to have President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo remove the minister from his position.

It is yet unclear if the MPs who are a part of the majority group will take part in the exercise, despite several members of the ruling New Patriotic Party publicly calling for the minister’s ouster.

This comes after a statement that Justin Frimpong Kodua, the NPP’s general secretary, issued ordering NPP MPs to abstain from the vote.

In a meeting with members of the majority party, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appealed to the lawmakers over their demand that Ken Ofori-Atta be removed from office.

According to sources, the president reportedly urged the MPs to postpone their request until the minister wrapped up Ghana’s ongoing talks with the International Monetary Fund and the 2023 budget statement was delivered to parliament.
