Ghana Card Registration for Children Resumes in North East and Upper East Regions

National Identification Authority Restarts Children’s Registration

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has officially announced the resumption of the Ghana Card registration exercise specifically tailored for children in the North East and Upper East regions. This vital administrative phase aims to ensure that minors within these geographical zones are properly captured under the national biometric database, aligning with broader government digitization objectives.

Local authorities and parents have welcomed the resumption, noting that early biometric enrolment is essential for seamless access to public services and educational tracking. The NIA has deployed mobile registration teams to remote communities to bridge the accessibility gap and ensure maximum turnout.

Expanding the National Database Across Northern Sectors

The decision to restart the registration drive in the northern sectors comes on the heels of logistical adjustments made by the Authority. According to regional directors, public sensitization campaigns have been intensified to educate guardians on the requisite documentation needed for the exercise.

Key requirements for registering minors typically include a birth certificate or valid Ghana Card details of parents or legal guardians. Community leaders have been urged to assist registration officers in verifying the identity of applicants to maintain the absolute integrity of the national database.

Overcoming Logistical Hurdles in the Upper East and North East

Previous phases of the children’s registration initiative faced minor setbacks due to challenging terrain and connectivity issues in remote districts. However, the NIA has assured the public that upgraded registration kits with robust offline capabilities have been deployed to forestall network downtimes.

As the exercise gathers momentum, stakeholders remain optimistic that the targets for these regions will be met within the stipulated timeframe, further solidifying Ghana’s position as a leader in digital identification across West Africa.
