Mahama Warns New Ministers Against Arrogance, Calls for Humility and Accountability

In a firm statement aimed at setting the tone for his administration, President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned his newly sworn-in ministers against any form of arrogance or disrespect towards the Ghanaian populace. The warning came during a ceremony at the Jubilee House on January 22, 2025, where six new ministerial appointees were officially inducted into office.

Addressing the ministers, President Mahama emphasized the importance of humility and accountability, underscoring that the power they wield is derived directly from the citizens of Ghana. “We must exhibit tolerance for their views and work to meet their aspirations,” Mahama stated. He made it clear that his government would not tolerate behaviors that undermine the respect due to the electorate. “Modesty and prudence must be the guiding principles upon which you, myself, and our Vice President fashion our governance,” he added.

The President reiterated commitments made during his inaugural address, highlighting that the Ghanaian electorate has expressed a clear demand for superior governance standards through their votes. “As I pointed out during my inaugural speech, Ghanaians have, through their votes, declared their intention to demand the highest standards of governance, and we cannot afford to fail them,” he noted.

Transparency and fairness were also key points in Mahama’s address. He warned that anti-corruption bodies would be strengthened to ensure that any misconduct would be rigorously investigated and dealt with. “The people of Ghana will hold us accountable for the trust they have placed in our hands. It cannot be business as usual. We must be transparent and fair in all our dealings,” he remarked.

This directive from President Mahama sets a significant tone for his administration, signaling a governance style that prioritizes public trust, ethical leadership, and direct accountability to the citizens of Ghana.
