Tragic DWI Crash in New Jersey Claims Life of Local Grandmother

BRICK TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY — A somber morning unfolded on Route 70 near Brick Township when Anne Rasmussen, a beloved local grandmother and emergency room nurse, was killed in a deadly wrong-way collision. The incident occurred early on Friday, December 27, 2024, DWI Crash highlighting the grave consequences of driving under the influence.

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the accident took place around 5 a.m. near a Lowe’s home improvement store. Emergency services were dispatched following reports of a severe head-on collision involving a Toyota Rav4 and a Volkswagen Beetle.

The driver of the Toyota Rav4, whose identity has not been disclosed, was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Route 70, leading to a catastrophic collision with Rasmussen’s Beetle. The male driver, suspected of being under the influence, survived the crash but was hospitalized in critical yet stable condition. He has since been charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

Anne Rasmussen, described by Jersey Coast Emergency News as a “loved and loving mom, grandmother, ER nurse, and wife,” was tragically ejected from her vehicle during the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. Rasmussen was well-known in the community for her work at CentraState’s Emergency Department.

The crash has left the community in mourning, with local emergency services and residents expressing their grief over the loss. “The driver destroyed a family,” noted a report from Jersey Coast Emergency News, encapsulating the profound impact of the accident.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer stated that the investigation remains active, with further details to be disclosed as they are confirmed. “This is an active and ongoing investigation, more information will be released when it becomes available,” Billhimer confirmed.
