Wes Anderson Parents: Who are they?
Texan Ann Burroughs and Melver Leonard Anderson are Wes Anderson’s parents. His mother was an archaeologist and a real estate agent, and his father was an executive in the advertising industry.

When Anderson was eight years old, his parents got divorced, and from that point on, he spent most of his time with his mother. He grew up with his two brothers, Eric and Mel, and from a young age was recognized for his creative abilities. Anderson has credited his mother’s love of art and archaeology for inspiring his own imagination and style of filmmaking.

Anderson went to St. John’s School in Houston, where he met Owen Wilson, a future working partner. While still in high school, the two grew close and started shooting short films together. Anderson continued on to the University of Texas at Austin to pursue a degree in philosophy. While there, he also took film classes and produced short films.

In the late 1990s, Anderson’s parents both passed away within a year of one another. His father passed away from cancer in 1997, and his mother perished in a vehicle accident in 1994. According to Anderson, his father’s passing had a significant influence on the way he made movies, especially how he handled themes of loss and grief as well as dysfunctional families.

Anderson has thanked his parents for encouraging his creative endeavors and cultivating his love of movies despite the traumas he had to endure. He added, “My dad and my parents both took me to watch movies a lot… They always took me seriously when I said I wanted to make movies.” in an interview with The Guardian.
