Voter Exhibition Exercise Ends Today, EC Encourages Voters to Verify Their Details: The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) is urging prospective voters to verify their details in the voter register before the end of the voter exhibition exercise today, Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
The exercise began on Friday, November 3, and has been ongoing at all 38,622 polling stations across the country from 7:00am to 6:00pm each day.
The voter exhibition exercise is to afford prospective voters the opportunity to cross-check their details as captured in the register, particularly for those who were captured during the limited registration between Tuesday, September 12 and Monday, October 2.
Despite incessant cases of low turnout at most exhibition centers, the Chair of the Commission, Jean Mensa, has said that most prospective voters are making use of digitization to verify their details.
She said the EC has made available a short code – 71381# – for online verification at a fee of GHp50.
The district level and unit committee elections will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
Voters Advised to Check Their Details
The EC is advising voters to check their details in the voter register carefully to ensure that their names are spelled correctly, that their dates of birth are correct, and that they are registered at the correct polling station.
If there are any errors, voters can request for corrections to be made at the exhibition center.
Voters are also advised to check that their voter ID cards are valid and that they are in good condition. If a voter’s ID card is damaged or lost, they can apply for a replacement at the exhibition center.
Why is Voter Verification Important?
Voter verification is important to ensure that the voter register is accurate and up-to-date. It also helps to prevent voter fraud.
When voters verify their details in the voter register, they are helping to ensure that they will be able to vote on Election Day.
If a voter’s name is not on the voter register, or if their details are incorrect, they will not be able to vote.
