President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed that Vice President Naana Opoku-Agyemang has fully recovered from her recent illness and is set to return to Ghana to resume her official duties.
Speaking during his ongoing ‘Thank You Tour’ in Dodowa, Greater Accra Region, on Friday, May 16, 2025, Mahama expressed relief and gratitude for her improved health.
“I’m happy to state that I spoke to her yesterday morning, and she will be back in the country before the end of next week. By God’s grace, she is fully recovered and she’s going to come and go back to her duties,” he announced.
Background of Vice President’s Illness
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was reported to have suffered a sudden illness on March 28, 2025, and sought medical attention at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the following day. On April 7, 2025, she commenced a three-week medical leave and traveled abroad for further treatment to ensure a full recovery.
Her impending return is expected to bring renewed momentum to government affairs as she resumes her responsibilities after a period of rest and recuperation.
