A devastating accident occurred at the Aggrey Memorial Zion Senior High School Junction on the Cape Coast-Accra Highway, resulting in three fatalities and numerous injuries.
The Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOIII Abdul Wasiu Hudu, shared details of the incident in a recent media briefing. He reported that a Yutong bus, registered as GW 6231-21, which was en route from Takoradi to Accra carrying 53 passengers, flipped over, leaving some passengers trapped under the vehicle.
“Our officers from the Ghana National Fire Service, in collaboration with the police and ambulance services, were able to rescue all the casualties,” DOIII Wasiu Hudu announced.
The injured were promptly taken to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the University of Cape Coast Hospital for treatment. According to medical staff at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, three individuals succumbed to their injuries, while others received care for various injuries.
DOIII Wasiu Hudu also confirmed that out of the survivors, 23 are still under medical care at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, with nine having been treated and subsequently discharged.
This tragic event highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety on one of Ghana’s major highways.
