A TikTok creator known as Allie Rae is currently under investigation after a video of her unplugging her baby’s NICU monitor to summon a nurse for a turkey sandwich went viral. The incident took place at a hospital in Webster, Texas, where Rae’s actions have sparked widespread criticism.
Rae, who used the now-deleted TikTok account ‘not.allie.rae,’ livestreamed the act of unplugging her baby’s NICU monitor. This was allegedly done with the intention of prompting a nurse’s visit, not for medical emergencies but to request food service. In the video, Rae can be seen attempting to persuade an evidently irritated yet professional nurse to fetch her a turkey club sandwich, citing hunger as her reason. Despite the nurse’s suggestion for Rae to take a break and get food herself, Rae persisted in her request.
This behavior was repeated when Rae unplugged the monitor again to ask for drinks, further escalating public outrage. The actions have been met with significant backlash on social media platforms, especially in forums like the TikTok gossip subreddit, where users expressed shock and condemnation over the potential risks to the baby’s health.
One user remarked, “wait, she unplugged the babies monitor so a nurse would come into the room just so she could ask the nurse to hand her her drink? what the fcking fck?” Another user shared their personal experience, highlighting the life-saving role of NICU monitors, “My daughter was born at 26wk. I was terrified those monitors they are hooked up to show if their heart stops beating or they stop breathing. As a parent it makes me sick and so pissed to see this.”
In response to the backlash, Rae claimed in another video that a nurse had instructed her to unplug the monitor to summon help, a claim that many, including nurses on social media, have dismissed as implausible. One nurse commented, “A nurse absolutely did NOT tell her that.”
The incident was initially brought to wider attention by another TikTok creator, Anthony Blackwell, known as The Welding Salesman. After seeing the video, Blackwell reported the incident to the hospital authorities and Child Protective Services. Initially, there was confusion about the location, with Blackwell mentioning Alberta, Canada, but he later clarified that the hospital is in Webster, Texas.
Adding to the controversy, Blackwell revealed that Rae, also known as Alexandra Linsey Hill, has a prior arrest record for theft in Galveston County, Texas.
The hospital in Webster, Texas, has confirmed that they are investigating the matter, focusing on the behavior of Miss Rae, as reported by Blackwell. The case remains under review, with no further details available at this time.
