Two young girls, aged 15 and 8, are at the center of a significant theft in the town of Twifo Praso. The two are accused of stealing more than 40,000 Ghanaian cedis (around $3,400 USD) and gold bars from a local shop.
The theft occurred on Tuesday, January 28, when the girls entered the shop pretending to be interested in buying mercury. Security footage from the shop reveals the older girl, dressed in yellow, cleverly accessing a drawer left unsecured by the distracted shopkeeper. She swiftly gathered the cash and gold into a black polythene bag and passed it to her younger accomplice who was positioned to watch for any interruptions.
Shop owner Enoch Boateng discovered the substantial loss later in the day, which he says could severely impact his business operations. He has reported the incident to the Ghana Police Service, who have now launched a full investigation.
The police are appealing to the public for any information that might help in locating the suspects. This case has sparked a conversation about security in local businesses and the involvement of minors in criminal activities.
