Hundreds of passionate supporters of dancehall artiste Shatta Wale gathered outside the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Wednesday, staging a dramatic show of solidarity following the musician’s detention over a Lamborghini-related investigation.
The crowd, made up of members of the Shatta Movement (SM), arrived in waves—many on motorbikes, dressed in red and black, and waving placards with messages like “Free Shatta Wale” and “Please have mercy on our King.” Some fans were seen chanting his songs, while others carried symbolic items such as sticks and swords, creating a charged yet largely peaceful atmosphere.
Tensions briefly flared as police officers deployed to maintain order engaged in verbal exchanges with some protestors. However, no major incidents were reported, and the demonstration remained under control throughout the day.
Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., was detained by EOCO after voluntarily appearing with his lawyer to assist in an investigation into the tax status of his yellow Lamborghini Urus. The vehicle had previously been seized amid suspicions of links to international financial crimes.
His management team has since confirmed that Shatta Wale was granted bail of GH₵10 million with two sureties and is cooperating fully with authorities. They urged fans to remain calm and allow the legal process to unfold.
The protest outside EOCO underscores the deep loyalty of Shatta Wale’s fanbase, many of whom credit his music with personal and emotional impact. One supporter told reporters, “If it wasn’t for Shatta Wale, I would have been depressed after my mother’s death. His songs have helped me. I’m here because I believe in him.”
As investigations continue, the Shatta Movement remains vocal, determined to stand by their icon through thick and thin.
