Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a former minister for the environment, science, technology, and innovation, has highlighted that despite his criticism of the government, he is not a traitor to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He made it clear that the goal of his hot takes on governance is to support the NPP and advance Ghana as a country.

I don’t think I’m criticizing or assaulting the administration, no, he said in an interview with TV3’s Kemini Amanor for the Hot Issues show. I’m sharing my opinions in order to strengthen the party and make Ghana a better place because the president stated that we should be participants rather than observers.

He firmly answered, “Not at all,” when asked if he would consider himself a traitor in the NPP. I will state that I am a patriot. The term “traitor” is too far from my residence.

In a 36-page report published in March 2019 under the title “Report on the work of IMCIM so far and the way forward,” Professor Frimpong-Boateng made various claims about government officials who were engaged in unlawful small-scale mining (galamsey).

The report, which was presented to the president via the Chief of Staff, claimed that government employees, lawmakers, and regular residents were involved in galamsey.

After reviewing the report, the Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, advised the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) that the people identified in the report disputed the charges and that efforts to find more evidence to support the assertions were fruitless.

The Attorney-General went on to say that police investigations had turned up no evidence to back up the accusations, therefore he came to the conclusion that there was no foundation for filing criminal charges against the people named in the report.

The Attorney-General’s assertions were refuted by Professor Frimpong-Boateng, who said, “It is not true, I fully cooperated with the CID, and I am not an investigative agent.”
