Kayla Netherland, a 5-month pregnant preschool teacher from Indianapolis, was critically injured after being shot five times by her ex-husband, Jeremy McBride. The incident, which took place in Indianapolis, has left Netherland in critical condition following multiple surgeries to save her life.
The shooting, which occurred on a quiet Sunday, resulted in the tragic loss of Netherland’s unborn daughter. Netherland suffered severe injuries, leading to the removal of her left ovary, fallopian tube, and parts of her intestine and colon. Despite the extensive medical intervention, including repairs to her uterus, Netherland remains in considerable pain but is awake and has not been paralyzed.
A GoFundMe campaign initiated by Corene Garcia from Shelbyville, IN, aims to support Netherland’s recovery and help her family manage the financial burdens, including travel costs, as Netherland hails from Dallas, TX. The fundraiser underscores Netherland’s joy and anticipation for her pregnancy, highlighted by her recent social media posts where she expressed excitement about meeting her “sweet baby girl.”
Netherland, a graduate of Franklin Central High School and Ivy Tech Community College, was also known for her entrepreneurial spirit, owning and decorating “Sweets n’ Treats” according to her social media profile. Her past struggles with conception had made this pregnancy particularly cherished.
Jeremy McBride, the assailant, is an Indianapolis native working as a radio technician at JES & Sons 2-Way LLC. He also holds a theology degree from Indiana Bible College and was certified as a pastor by the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ Church. Following the shooting, McBride was arrested by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
The community and her family are rallying around Netherland, who had been eagerly looking forward to the arrival of her child. This incident has not only devastated a family but has also shocked the local community, drawing attention to issues of domestic violence.
