Bruno Fernandes scored the only goal of the game as Portugal edged Slovakia 1-0 in their Euro 2024 qualifying match on Friday.

The victory extended Portugal’s winning run to five matches in the qualifying campaign, and they now sit top of Group A with 15 points from six games.

Fernandes scored the decisive goal in the 54th minute, firing home from close range after a cross from Diogo Jota.

Portugal had several other chances to score, but they were denied by some good saves from Slovakia goalkeeper Dominik Greif.

Slovakia created some chances of their own, but they were unable to find a way past Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

The result was a fair reflection of the game, with Portugal the better team but Slovakia making them work hard for the win.

Portugal’s next match in the qualifying campaign is against the Republic of Ireland on September 24.
