Daniel Ofori, a popular businessman in Takoradi, has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a mining company in Bogoso.
Ofori, alias Dan To Be, was arrested on September 6, 2023, along with another suspect, Derrick Kwabena. The police said the two men were waiting for their accomplices to return with the loot when they were apprehended.
The police said Ofori and Kwabena were part of a group of eight men who attacked the mining company on September 5, 2023. The gang reportedly overpowered the security guards at the company and made off with a quantity of gold concentrate.
The police said they responded to the scene of the robbery and were able to arrest Kwabena, while the others escaped. Further investigation led to the arrest of Ofori.
The police said items retrieved from the suspects include a quantity of gold concentrate in a fertilizer sack, one pistol, one cutlass, five BB cartridges, and one Toyota Hilux pickup with registration No. GN 3020-17.
The two suspects are in lawful custody while efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
The police have appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the four suspects who are still at large.
The arrest of Ofori is a major breakthrough for the police, as he is a known criminal who has been on their wanted list for some time. He is believed to be the leader of a robbery gang that has been terrorizing residents of Takoradi and its environs.
The police have vowed to continue to crack down on criminals in the country and bring them to justice. They have also called on the public to support them in their fight against crime.
The arrest of Ofori is a welcome development and it is hoped that the police will be able to apprehend the other suspects soon. This will send a strong message to criminals that they will not be tolerated in Ghana.
