In a landmark ruling that has gripped national attention, a Kumasi High Court has sentenced Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah.

The verdict was delivered on Thursday, October 24, 2025, following months of legal proceedings that began after Twumasi was arrested in April 2023 for shooting Dapaah multiple times in Adum, Kumasi. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, sent shockwaves across the country and sparked widespread outrage.

Twumasi, who was attached to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, pleaded guilty to the charge of murder. The prosecution presented compelling evidence, including eyewitness accounts and ballistic reports, confirming that the officer used his service weapon to commit the crime.

Presiding judge Justice Paul Gyaesayor described the act as “cold-blooded and inexcusable,” stating that the sentence was necessary to serve as a deterrent to others and uphold public trust in law enforcement.

Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maa Adwoa, was a 26-year-old mother of one and a popular figure in her community. Her death sparked protests and renewed calls for police accountability and reforms within the Ghana Police Service.

Family members of the victim expressed mixed emotions after the sentencing, with some welcoming the verdict as justice served, while others lamented the irreversible loss of a young life full of promise.

The Ghana Police Service has yet to issue a formal statement on the ruling, but sources within the force indicate that disciplinary reviews and psychological screenings for officers may be intensified in the wake of the case.

This ruling marks one of the most high-profile convictions of a serving police officer in Ghana’s recent history and is expected to reignite national conversations around domestic violence, mental health, and the responsibilities of those in uniform.
