A tragic event occurred at a wedding ceremony in Akyem Anamase near Oda in the Eastern Region of Ghana last Friday. Chief Inspector Godwin Beniba, the police groom and Station Officer at the Anamase Police Station, suddenly collapsed and died moments after arriving at the Anamase Hotel, where the wedding was to take place.
Beniba was in the company of his best men, eagerly awaiting the arrival of his bride, Florence Debrah, when the incident happened. Eyewitnesses reported that he complained of dizziness before collapsing, which led to an immediate response from some guests who rushed him to the Anamase Clinic. However, upon arrival, he was pronounced dead by the medical staff.
The sudden and unexpected death cast a somber shadow over the event, leaving hundreds of attendees, including many police officers from various parts of Ghana like Accra, Koforidua, Oda, Akyem Achiase, and Akyem Swedru, in deep mourning. The gathering, meant for celebration, turned into a scene of grief as many were visibly distraught.
The prepared feast for the wedding remained untouched as guests, overwhelmed by the tragedy, left the venue. The family of Chief Inspector Beniba, who had come from the Northern Region for the celebration, took the responsibility of having his body transported to the Oda Government Hospital morgue for an autopsy to determine the cause of death and for preservation.
This incident has left the community of Akyem Anamase and beyond in shock and mourning, as they process the loss of a respected member on what should have been one of the happiest days of his life.
