The Sheppard Family has shared the heartbreaking news of the passing of Pastor Paul Sheppard, the senior pastor of Destiny Christian Fellowship in Fremont, CA. Pastor Sheppard died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 25, 2025, as announced by his wife, First Lady Meredith Sheppard, and the family in a joint statement.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the transition of my husband and our beloved pastor, Pastor Paul E. Sheppard, who entered into rest on Saturday, January 25, 2025,” the statement conveyed.
Since embarking on his pastoral journey in 1982, Pastor Sheppard had been a pivotal figure in the Christian community. He led Destiny Christian Fellowship since 2009, following a significant tenure as the senior pastor at Abundant Life Christian Fellowship in Mountain View, CA, from 1989 to 2009. Before these roles, he served as an associate pastor at West Oak Lane Church of God in Philadelphia, his hometown.
Educated at the University of Pennsylvania, the Center for Urban Theological Studies, and the Southern CA School of Ministry, Pastor Sheppard earned a Master in Ministry and was later awarded an honorary Doctorate of Divinity. He was also known for his outreach beyond the pulpit, hosting the popular podcast “Destined for Victory” and authoring books like “Rebuilding What the Enemy Almost Destroyed,” “Why God Created Dads,” and “Build a Bridge and Get Over It.”
Pastor Paul is survived by his wife, Meredith, whom he married in 1982, and their two children, Alicia Greer and Aaron Sheppard.
His unexpected death has deeply affected his congregation, with many expressing their grief and admiration online. “Pastor Paul laid that word down like no other and my last few times coming have been great,” one tribute stated. Another congregant remembered him as “The best pastor. He taught us in laymen’s terms, with a sense of humor added in, always rightly dividing the Word of Truth.”
