Panic! at the Disco is an American rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2004.
The band was formed by childhood friends Ryan Ross, Spencer Smith, Brent Wilson and Brendon Urie, who were all in high school at the time. The band’s name was taken from the name of a song by the band Name Taken.
The band’s debut album, ‘A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out’, was released in 2005 and featured the hit single ‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’, which helped the band achieve mainstream success. The single peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified double platinum. The album also featured the singles “Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off” and “But It’s Better If You Do”, which also gained popularity. The album went on to sell over 2 million copies worldwide.
In 2007, the band released their second full-length album, ‘Pretty. Odd”, which had a more pop-oriented sound in comparison to their debut album. The album featured the singles “Nine in the Afternoon” and “Mad as Rabbits”, which were chart successes. The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified gold.
Following the release of Pretty. Odd”, the band underwent a number of line-up changes. Ryan Ross and Jon Walker left the band, leaving Urie as the only remaining member of the original line-up. The band then released their third album, Vices & Virtues, in 2011, with Urie as the only remaining original member. The album included the singles “The Ballad of Mona Lisa” and “Ready to Go (Get Me Out of My Mind)” and was well-received.
In 2013 she released her fourth album, Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die!, featuring a more electronic sound than her earlier records. The album included the chart-topping singles “Miss Jackson” and “This Is Gospel”. The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.
In 2016, the band released their fifth album, Death of a Bachelor, which had a more pop-focused sound compared to their previous albums. The album featured the singles “Hallelujah” and “Emperor’s New Clothes”, which were chart successes. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, and was certified platinum.
In 2018, the band released their sixth album, Pray for the Wicked, which had a more electronic sound compared to their previous records. The album featured the chart-topping singles “Say Amen (Saturday Night)”, “High Hopes” and “Hey Look Ma, I Made It”. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
In 2018, the band’s lead singer and only remaining original member, Brendon Urie, announced that Panic! at the Disco would go on an indefinite hiatus following the end of the Pray for the Wicked tour. However, in 2019, Urie announced that he would continue to use the Panic! at the Disco name and that the band would continue to tour and release new music. Their latest album, Dying in LA, was released in 2018.

Panic! at the Disco have received numerous awards for their music and live performances throughout their career. In 2006, the band won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Art Direction for their music video for “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”. In 2007, the band was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package for their album A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out.
In 2011, their music video for “The Ballad of Mona Lisa” won the MTV Video Music Award Japan for Best Rock Video. In 2013, their music video for “This Is Gospel” won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Art Direction. In the same year, the band was nominated for the MTV Europe Music Award for Best US Act.
For their single “Hallelujah”, the band won the 2016 iHeartRadio Music Award for Alternative Rock Song of the Year. In 2018, the band won the iHeartRadio Music Award for Best Cover Song for their cover of “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
On top of these awards, the band has also received multiple nominations for awards including the MTV Europe Music Award, the American Music Award, and the Billboard Music Award. They have become one of the most influential and popular bands in alternative rock, receiving critical and popular acclaim for their music.

In order to give his full attention to his family, he announced that he would be retiring from Panic! at the Disco after the conclusion of the Viva Las Vengeance tour on 10 March in Manchester, England.
