NYPD Officer Matthew Kear Remembered for Dedication and Passion Following Tragic Death

Oceanside, New York – Matthew Kear, a dedicated police officer with the New York Police Department’s (NYPD) 1st Precinct, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of service and community spirit. His death was announced by his father, Stephen Kear, also a former NYPD officer, via social media on Saturday, January 25, 2025. The cause of death was not disclosed.

“It is with a very Heavy and broken heart that I want to let you know our beloved son Matthew passed away on Saturday,” Stephen Kear shared. “Matthew had so much Love to give which he gave freely to everyone who knew him.”

Born on April 2, 1997, in Oceanside, Matthew Kear followed in his father’s footsteps into law enforcement after serving in the U.S. Navy. Known for his passion and commitment, Officer Kear was a well-regarded member of the Nassau Police Veterans Association (NPVA), where he was known for his readiness to assist fellow officers, veterans, and the association itself.

An avid sports fan, Kear supported the Buffalo Bills and the New York Islanders, intertwining his love for sports with his community involvement.

Funeral arrangements have been set by the family. Visitation will be held at Towers Funeral Home, located at 2681 Long Beach Rd., Oceanside, NY, on Wednesday, January 29, and Thursday, January 30, 2025. A Funeral Mass will follow at 9 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025, at St. Anthony’s Church, 110 Anchor Ave., Oceanside, NY.

The NYPD and the wider community are mourning the loss of Officer Kear, remembering him not only for his service but for the warmth and dedication he brought to those around him.
