A Former Metropolitan Chief Executive(MCE) for Tamale Iddrisu Musah Superior has asserted that the leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has mismanaged the party.
The General Secretary hopeful noted that the party had become so weak because members who have sacrificed and worked so hard for the party in the last four years have not been adequately compensated and are therefore struggling.
Speaking in an interview on Bolgatanga-based Dreamz Fm monitored by MyNewsGh, he argued that the internal structures of the party have virtually broken down and posed a sufficient threat to the agenda of the party to win the 2024 elections.
Musah Superior stressed that though the Nana Addo-led government is doing fantastically well in the governance of the country through its policies and programmes, the current state of the party will likely erode the gains made by the government in a bid to retain power.
“Our party has become so weak because a number of people who have worked for this party are struggling whereas we have a very competitive government led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The research I have done reveals that 61% of the party last executives didn’t have jobs or meaningful businesses and I think that is absolutely unacceptable. You follow a political party for two reasons and the major reason is the Ghana reason. We believe that the party has competent people; competent manifestos and that they can manage the country well. They believe that their flag bearer or candidate is excellent and that the party can deliver the project Ghana. So that is one of the key reasons we support political parties,” he said
He stated further that “The other reason is your personal development reason. Every person joining a political party will have it at the back of his or her kind that when I work so hard for the party to win power then the party should also be able to help me. That is what is lacking now. In the last five years, the National leadership of our party has not been able to put a plan in place to support our party people and when I say our party people I mean the executives of our party”.
While making a case for his election as General Secretary of the NPP, Musah Superior disclosed that he will set up a scheme that will empower members of the party at the constituency levels by setting up a scheme that will pool resources for the economic empowerment of executives of the party and welfare of members in general.
“The office of the General Secretary should be the chief lobbying office for our party people. We should support and help them and so if they need contracts we go out there and lobby for them. When they need opportunities in recruitment issues we find it for them. This is how a political party is actively organised,” he said.
He disclosed his plans to establish a business development unit for the party.
