In a recent public address, George Opare Addo, the Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has communicated a strong message to the people of Ghana regarding the upcoming political landscape post the 2024 elections. In his statement, Addo emphasized the NDC’s commitment to the ‘reset Ghana’ initiative, aimed at improving the nation’s socio-political and economic conditions under the leadership of H.E John Dramani Mahama.
Addo’s statement highlighted several key points:
- Allegations of Electoral Manipulation: He accused various state institutions, including the Electoral Commission, Security Services, and the National Peace Council, along with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), of attempting to undermine the electoral process in nine constituencies. He assured that these efforts would fail, emphasizing that the NDC’s agenda to reset Ghana would proceed with full force from January 7, 2025.
- Engagement with Citizens: The NDC has engaged with a wide cross-section of Ghanaians, understanding their grievances and their support for the reset agenda through their votes. Addo reiterated the party’s dedication to protecting these votes, acknowledging the significant role the youth played in securing a substantial victory margin for Mahama and the NDC in the December 7 elections.
- Youth’s Role in the Election Outcome: The youth’s understanding of the damage inflicted by the outgoing NPP regime was underscored, with Addo noting their pivotal role in delivering a clear message through their votes. The election results, with Mahama gaining nearly 1.7 million votes and a two-thirds parliamentary majority, were portrayed as a symbolic protest against the NPP’s governance.
- Commitment to the Reset Agenda: Addo called on Mahama to continue with the agenda of rectifying the wrongs committed by the NPP. He confirmed the readiness of the NDC Youth Wing and the Green Army to support this mission, including efforts to retrieve stolen votes and combat any electoral irregularities in the contested constituencies.
- Warning to Internal Saboteurs: A stern warning was issued to any NDC members who might consider supporting or protecting members of the NPP or their allies post-election. Addo made it clear that such actions would be met with severe repercussions from the NDC youth, who are vigilant and prepared to act decisively.
- Public Involvement in Anti-Corruption Efforts: Addo also mentioned the establishment of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team, encouraging the public to report corruption related to the NPP regime through provided contact methods.
- Call for Calm and Unity: Finally, he urged NDC supporters to remain calm and trust in the party’s leadership to guide the reset agenda, promising a future where Ghana would thrive under fair governance.
Addo concluded his address with a traditional greeting, “Eye Zu! Eye Za!”, signifying unity and strength, as the NDC looks forward to taking power on January 7 to implement their vision for Ghana’s future.
