Mahama Teases Sammy Gyamfi Over Dollar Gift Saga During Thank-You Tour in Dodowa 2

President John Dramani Mahama has finally addressed the controversy surrounding the dollar gift saga involving the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod), Sammy Gyamfi. During a speech at his ongoing thank-you tour in Dodowa, Mahama made light of the situation while gifting a traditional group cash after their performance.

The President, who resumed his nationwide tour on Friday, May 16, 2025, with a stop in Dodowa, commended the cultural troupe for their performance and humorously clarified the currency of his donation. “Let me begin by commending the cultural troupe for the very beautiful performance they gave us,” Mahama said. “And to put on record that the money that I gave was Ghc 500 and not dollars.” His remark drew laughter from the gathered crowd.

Mahama’s tour has already covered several regions, including Volta, Western, Central, Upper East, Northern, and Upper West, before reaching the Greater Accra Regional leg.

Sammy Gyamfi Dollar Gift Controversy

Sammy Gyamfi, a prominent National Democratic Congress (NDC) communicator and acting head of Goldbod, was recently embroiled in a political storm after a video surfaced showing him gifting dollar bills to Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Nana Agradaa. The footage, which captured Gyamfi handing out the money after a chance meeting with Agradaa, sparked widespread criticism, with opposition figures calling for his dismissal.

Despite the backlash, the Presidency announced that no further action would be taken against Gyamfi beyond an apology and a caution from the Chief of Staff. Mahama’s recent comment marks the first time he has publicly acknowledged the controversy.
