Kittanning, PA – The Armstrong County community is reeling from the news that Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Moore, the owner of Ken’s Tree & Debris LLC, was one of the victims in a double homicide that occurred early Wednesday morning in Washington Township.
The shooting took place around 2:40 a.m. in the 100 block of Shaffer Lane, where Kittanning police discovered two deceased individuals. The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Scott Shaffer, was arrested and has confessed to the crime. According to the preliminary investigation, Shaffer had invited the victims, who he met at Ruby’s Den Burger & Spirits Bar and Grill, to his home. He then instructed his 18-year-old daughter to remain inside before he shot the two men. Instead of following his directive to hide the weapon, his daughter called emergency services, leading to Shaffer’s swift arrest.
While police did not release the names of the victims, only noting their ages as 27 and 32, friends on social media confirmed that one of the deceased was Kenny Moore.
Moore, from East Brady, was known for his tree cutting, trimming, and removal service. His business, Ken’s Tree & Debris, was well-regarded in Kittanning, and before starting his own venture, he was employed by Asplundh Tree Expert Company. He was an alumnus of Ford City High School.
Tributes poured in from those who knew Moore, describing him as a quiet, hardworking individual and a cherished friend. “Kenny Moore was the sweetest soul and deserved way more than what this world had to offer him. I will forever cherish our long talks and our karaoke moments. I’m heartbroken knowing last weekend will be the last time I ever see you again. You always knew how to make people laugh and you had a heart of gold,” one tribute read.
Kenny leaves behind two children, Baylie and Nixon, who were the light of his life. The community is left to mourn not only the loss of Kenny but also to grapple with the shock of such a violent act in their midst.
