Kennedy Agyapong was not offered $800 million to step down; the Bawumia camp denies any bribery allegations: The Bawumia Campaign Team has denied claims made by NPP flagbearership candidate Kennedy Agyapong that he received an offer of $800 million to drop out of the presidential primary.
As per the team’s assertion, Kennedy Agyapong’s claim is not accurate.
This comes after Kennedy Agypong, the MP for Assin Central, said that certain party heavyweights offered him $800 million to withdraw from the vice presidential contest.
However, he turned down the offer since he wants to lead the party into the general election in 2024 and he loves Ghanaians.
Vice President Gideon Boako’s spokeswoman, Gideon Boako, responded to the accusations by outlining important facts and firmly denying any involvement in such an offer in a statement.
Contrary to Kennedy Agyapong’s assertions, the statement states that Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong have not had a private meeting since Kennedy Agyapong entered the presidential race.
It further stated that they neither authorised nor participated in any talks or negotiations about Kennedy Agyapong’s departure from the competition, either directly or through agents.
As a result, it called the assertion “completely absurd” and showed disrespect for Ghanaians’ intelligence.By the grace of God, Dr. Bawumia is and has always been convinced that he will easily defeat Kennedy Agyapong on November 4 and has never harboured any desire for him to withdraw from the competition.
It is instructive to note that Kennedy Agyapong’s most recent allegation is a repetition of one he made approximately a month ago, asserting without providing evidence that he was offered money to resign and serve as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate. We publicly refuted this baseless claim on September 30, 2023, the statement said.
The group went on to characterise the vice president as a modest candidate dedicated to conducting a respectable campaign free of insults and personal jabs.
The Vice President is a man known for his humility, and he is steadfast in his commitment to using his intelligence to serve people.
The group went on, “We reiterate Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to running a decent campaign devoid of personality attacks, lies, and insults to preserve the unity of our great party, while urging the public to disregard such outrageous lies, subtly directed at the Bawumia Campaign.”
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is getting ready for its November 4, 2023, National Delegate Conference, which will choose the party’s standard bearer for the general election in 2024.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh are the four contenders in the contest.
