Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the deputy minister of local government decentralization and rural development, has vowed that his department will reclaim all encroached lands that belong to agencies under his jurisdiction, primarily the parks and gardens agency and the community and vocational institution.
The Minister has been giving notice to those who have encroached on such Lands while touring the encroached locations in the Western, Central, and Greater Accra regions.
He said it is too concerning how frequently designated areas for public groups are being illegally taken over for private usage. People have gained the confidence to seize public property at will.
He questioned why the assemblies under whose jurisdiction these unlawful acts are being carried out remain silent and allow this to happen.
He added that Sector Minister Hon. Dan Botwe has promised to stop the tendency and takes this situation very seriously.
He will visit Axim, Takoradi, Tarkwa, Cape Coast, and Accra during the tour. The National and Regional Director Directors of the two government agencies, as well as Ministry representatives, are accompanying him on the tour.
You might remember that he recently undertook a similar tour of several regions of the nation to examine, among other things, the rate of progress of ongoing government projects.
Since then, the Ministry has canceled the contracts of a number of underperforming contractors, some of whom even abandoned job sites and endangered taxpayer-funded projects.
